Nuts....I was lighting cigars with USD$100 notes, and dropped an ash on the lapel. I have flown in my tailor from Italy to fix it, but I am not sure it will be done by Saturday. Let me check with Ferdinando and will get back to you. If not...should I do the tux instead? Or as it appears spring is here, I could run down to the yacht and grab the white ducks and Yacht Club Blazer?

damn, does that mean I need to bring the small farm animals??? :S

Read the "Mixer Thread"....we are going to have to re-vamp the "Newbie Initiation Rites" slightly. The SPCA should be sending us the new guidelines shortly.
Something about having to have a disclaimer on the ShexPat Banner...
"No small farm animals were injured during this event"
Will get back to you on this...
Dora....Brownies!!!!!!
(I have given up hope on Baby Yu....) |

Did that work? I find the Wed. night mixer very unfriendly. Most people who go already know each other and pretty much only want to talk to each other. I have given up on that venue. |

Wow... it's taken me all the way to Thursday to write my comments about LAST Saturday. Painful. (Been a busy week).
Anyhow, just wanted to say that I had a great time last Saturday. I regret that I only had the chance to meet a handful of the people that were there. It seems like a good group. VERY mixed crowd, which I love. The best way to get interesting perspectives is to avoid groups where everyone is a carbon-copy.
My advice for people considering coming... I arrived a little early because I live so close, maybe 10:25, and the first people started trickling in around 10:30, with most starting to arrive a little after 11. It's Saturday, so don't kill yourself trying to get there "on time".
But on the flip-side, it seems that space can be tight! I do recommend against showing up too late, so that you have time to actually sit and talk and get to know a few people. It seems that later on there's so many people that you end up in really big group conversations. It's interesting, but it's tough to get to really KNOW the people you're talking with, since the conversations can be more spread-out, and there's people coming in-and-out constantly. I remember the names of the folks I talked with earlier, but many of the people I met and talked with later I didn't even get the chance to catch their name.
Looking forward to the next one! This is a holiday weekend, but I'll still do my best to drag my wife outta bed, and make our way down there! |

yeah its been getting a bit crowded AND the venue is asking we maintain our promised 12:30 ending time to facilitate those other customers who really need to smoke I guess, since we really do take up their entire smoking room and make it non-smoking for the duration. So, I will try and maintain the time to 1030-1230 and then off to lunch.
Holiday weekend or not, we will be there. Cheers! |

My kids are out of town with my parents so I would definitely like to come -- maybe without the kids running around I will actually have a chance to talk to more people. Last week was my first time and I enjoyed it, talked to a couple of interesting people -- wish I hadn't had to run out in the middle of conversations or stop to answer a question from one of the kids. Maybe this weekend will be chance See y'all there. |

It looks like I will have to miss this one... going out of town for the weekend. I think the group will be a little smaller this week due to the long weekend ....so you should get a chance to enjoy the closey conversations.
See you next Sat. |

| Post subject: Just A Friendly Thought |
Hi, everyone, my name is Wayne and I live in Las Vegas, NV (been here for over 40 years). I discovered this forum by accident and found it to be very fruitful and enjoyable. I am planning to visit Shanghai on 15th of April and stay for about 12 days. I'll love to meet up with some of you on the 19th.
As a newbie to this forum and to the coffee meet, I'll like to show little friendly gesture to my fellow expats. Here is what I'll do for the frist 10 expat who reply to this post (PM preferred). I'll bring one item from the states for each of you, something that you really, really having hard time to find in Shanghai. Now, this NOT a gift and you will be paying for the actual cost of the item when I deliver to you at the meet with receipt. but keep in mind I can't bring anything that's too big or heavy due to the limited luggage allowance, and most of all not too expensive (under $30 ok, since I have to pay for it in advance). Final confirmation of your request will be confirm before 11th(12th SHA). Please don't ask me if you are not going to be there on the 19th. because I may not be in town for the next meet (leaving on 27th).
See you all at the coffee meet on 19th.
Oh, @yu888/board buddha (sorry don't know your name yet)
you are No. 1 on the reserved list.

wow, flattering indeed. Guess an Ipod is out huh? Telll you what, if you can bring a Costco sized container of NesQuik Chocolate milk mix, I' d be indebted to you. I have a chocolate milk craving and the Nesquik they sell here is NOT the same . Weird thing to ask, but hey, why not ]
But even if you don't, no worries, you are welcome to pop by for the coffee meet and the mixer on Wed nights if you get a chance.
Cheers. |
