just arrived in shanghai yesterday to begin a semester-long language program..a bit of a culture shock so far! very different from hong kong, where ive been working the last couple of years as a news reporter. im chinese-american from california originally, have a week and a half to get to know the city before i show my gf around... she's coming to visit next friday, haha. anyway looking forward to meeting everyone on Sat! |

We would like to meet with the locals and expats from Singapore, Malaysia and HongKong to share with them a new paradigm to good health, especially those with young families.
We intend to come to your coffee meet on Saturday. Sep 27th. Any objection? |

Actually...you are welcome to come, have coffee, and meet new folks.
But anything resembling solicitation or business discussions is sort of frowned upon. A lot....
We meet to talk, share opinions, and discuss life in Shanghai.

As p1atl10 says if you come and have coffee and talk about life in shanghai or the world or what not, no problems. If you make business contacts while making social contacts there then fine.
But if it even feels like you are doing remotely solicitatious or business like, you will be asked to leave. There's no strict definition of this. If someone in the group feels that this is the case then we will ask you to stop and leave. I want to drink my coffee and have a chat thats it, I'm sure most everyone else that comes to the coffee meeting wants the same.
Just remember that this is a purely social event and people go to relax on a weekend morning and you'll be fine. if you don't think you can abide by those simple guidelines then don't bother. if you can then we'll see you on saturday. |

P1atL10 has put it nicely because he is hoping you will bring him a Bloody Mary. I don't have to be so diplomatic.
If your intent is for business purposes, then you need to talk to ShanghaiExpat about SPONSORING the event. (and they in turn will likely ask me if we want the event sponsored) Otherwise, you 're welcome to come socialize BUT if we get ANY complaints about any solicitations for business, I am certain the other regulars will ask you to leave. It is indeed meant to be a social occassion with some troubleshooting expat living. But NOT meant to be a free forum for developing business. |
