| Post subject: Anyone pregnant and struggling? |
I'm only about 12 weeks but feeling reall down being away from home, working full time, not feeling great etc. I have turned against everything Chinese - the water, food, people! even my apartment. I know I'm going home to have the baby but it seems so far off and every day just seems like a struggle. Has anyone else been through this, survived, got any positive tips please?! |

I haven't been pregnant in Shanghai, but I remember being 12 weeks pregnant in the UK and hating everything about living in London... The apartment/ the air/ my job/ the commute - everything was wrong!
I'm sure it's hard being pregnant in Shanghai, particularly in the summer, but maybe you'd feel the same wherever you were?
Hang in there, things improved for me a couple of weeks into the second trimester - nothing changed with my circumstances, but somehow I just felt more positive. Maybe it's a hormone thing?

Yes, I havent been pregnant in Shanghai, but yes.. the first few weeks are really hard, the second trimester is better - I think it is a harmone thing, plus it takes getting used to being pregnant ( really !) - you are given free( often conflicting) advice by everybody - regarding do s and donts - you feel you are not really ready for this, and so on. I am not sure whether you know this, but the community centre has a group to help pregnant women here.. I met a woman who said the meetings really helped her, since she was alone here - you might try it.
And another free piece of advice - Do not worry, you will feel better soon !
Take some time off work, if possible. May be meditation and prenatal yoga help ?
BUMPS AND BABES – a group for pregnant women and new mothers, each 2nd and 4th Wednesday morning from 9:30 am – 11:30 am .The next date in June is Wednesday, June 13th . http://www.communitycenter.cn/events/coming_event?action=3 |

Thanks for your helpful comments and I'll look into the community centre. It's good to know other people have felt in the same boat! Thanks again. |

Hi SUSIE,
believe me is only a matter of time.
I got pregnant 3 days after moving to Shanghai.
It was the last thing I expected, I felt completely lost, didn't know what to do, was worried about going to the doctor eccc than the winter time was awful. My plans of going to India for my research job suddendly ha d to be postponed and I found myself working all day long alone in a house I could not even stand. My tolerance for everything chinese dropped at the lowest levels.
Then time passed by, the second semester, as everybody say, everything changes for the better and you start feeling happy about everything.
Start taking care of you, go swimming, yoga, star going to the fabric market have maternity dresses made and try to work less but please work, living here without working is just the worst nightmare.

In the beginning of my pregnancy I also felt a bit bad, got annoyed and sad sometimes. But it really gets better soon. I am 32 weeks now and I feel GREAT. And people are so nice to me, they always stand up and give me their seat in the bus or underground or give me their taxi, so I don't have to wait.
Just try to do some nice things for yourself, go out for lunch with friends, find a network of other pregnant women, get a massage and so on...I have learnt how important it is to enjoy this time and not feel sad or worried. |

Hi all,
I am 26 weeks pregnant now and ik was here for a few weeks. your emotions (or MY emotions) can fluctaute drastically throughout the week. so please do not be so hard on yourself (and on myself). not becasue i am only blaming the hormones, but it does make a difference. try to occupy yourself and think positive.
a question:
where can i go meet all other pregnant women?
thanks! cheers! |
