"Relief efforts are underway, now it's time for us to act!
This Wednesday, we will still hold our regular mixer, but we are going to have a fund raising effort to help some of the victims in Sichuan province. We are going to have 'raffle ticket' priced at RMB25.
For every ticket purchased, ShanghaiExpat will match the price, and 100% of it will go to Half The Sky Organization. Not only that, the ticket gives you a chance to win one of our many lucky draw prizes set to be given away!
Half The Sky has been doing putting forth a great effort and cooperating with China's Ministry of Civil Affairs and created the HTS CHILDREN'S EARTHQUAKE FUND to provide emergency and long-term relief to children in Sichuan and Chongqing affected by the quake.
Half the Sky is a US Based non-profit that takes care of orphans in China. Unfortunately due to this recent quake, many new orphans find themselves homeless, in addition to the many orphanages in the quake-ridden areas currently left out in the open! We can help, and thus Shanghaiexpat's decision to help this organization.

An amazing night tonight! Despite SO many fund raisers being held, our small but spirited crowd came through!
I must apologize that I jumped the gun in announcing figures for the donations at the event as it was based on a "best guess" from our staff who collected the undisclosed amounts. But given the conservative attendance after so many fund raisers, ShanghaiExpat is happy to announce that we raised a total of 26.600RMB with the Matching funds ShanghaiExpat put in for the event. Special thanks goes to the "blank donor" who along accounted for 1/3rd of the total. We will be happy to collect further donations to try and reach our 30k goal this week before we make arrangements to submit the donations to Half the Sky. There are many orphanages to be built and supported right now and every bit counts.
Thank you to all that attended and supported this cause. It has been a tough week for most of us as its just not pleasant. But I am truly glad we all came out to support the cause.
On behalf of ShanghaiExpat and Half the Sky, I thank you all for your contribution. Please know that more donations are welcome and will likely be needed after most forget this event so if you have long term giving plans, please consider adding this cause. |

Wednesday Night Mixer tonight! Another Hump Day is upon us so come on out to food friends and discounted drinks. Directway will be displaying their water filters tonight form 9-11 so those interested in a way to treat your skin and hair better to a clean water shower, or looking fo=r an eco freindly way to do laundry, or just looking for purified healthy drinking water, pop by their table and ask questions... lots of them. |

party? hmmm, i guess if you translate into chinese it may be called that. the mixer is just that...an opportunity for people to mix...hmmm guess if you add alcohol anything is a party  anyhow, should be there tonight! |
