What types of activities is she interested in?

Which side of the river? (I know nothing about Pudong other than the SuperBrand Mall, Aquarium, Jin Mao Observation Tower, Pearl Tower...)

Shopping?
Copy Market on Nanjing Lu and Chengdu Lu
Nanjing Lu Pedestrian Mall
Huaihai Lu
Xujiahui
South of Yanan Lu on Shanxi Nan Lu
Fabric Market
Yu Gardens

Sightseeing
The Bund
Jade Buddha Temple
Jing An Temple
Shanghai Museum People Square
Yu Gardens
XinTiandi

All of these have enough visitors that getting around or finding a read-able meunu would be an issue

Take the shanghai tour bus in front of the Garden Hotel.
The bus will go all the touristy places in shanghai. You can go down and walk around each stop then board again the following bus that comes every 30 minutes and you pay only one time...
