if you like hotpot, I remember there is a place near the west lake, I can talk with the mrs as I forgot the name and the exact location haha.
Also a couple of really good noodle places.
Butterfly Laguna is also ok - the dian xin (dim sum) are good - all you can eat, but not self service. |

lou wai lou sucks. Avoid it. Tourist trap that feeds off it's reputation from yesteryear. Was in HZ last week. Ate at the Crystal Jade in Xihutiandi which was OK. Wasn't impressed by the restaurants in HZ generally. On the whole not a fan of nanfang cai. |

You need to get away from the mainstream stuff if you want a really decent meal
Theres a really good giant fish-head soup place, its near some park place... I never remember the exact location lol. Its next to the 'Man-sized fish pond' place. |

Agreed that Lou Wai Lou is a tourist trap. Tian Wai Tian is a better choice near West Lake. Another famous old restaurant is ZhiWeiJu, there is a low-end section where you buy the food from the counter and find your own table, and there is a high-end section where you get served. WuShan Plaza is a very popular place for the locals and tourists alike. There are plenty of restaurants and shops. I had a couple meals there, sorry don't remember the names anymore. But you can just go there during lunch/dinner time, and look for restaurants with the most people. |

Zhang Sheng Ji 张生记at Shuang Ling Lu 双菱路 - a bit far away from the lake but food is good and price is reasonable,
May also try Hong Ni 红泥 |

Thanks.
Went to ZhiWeiJu and it was pretty good considering I don't usually go for sweet food. Grandma's Kitchen by the way is nothing special, the atmosphere is nice though. There are some farmer's restaurants on/around Longjing Lu that were really popular when I was there though it was too hot for me to eat outside... |

May be strange, but I like the Indian restaurant on the lake, I think it's called Haveli. |

went to this Hunan restaurant earlier this week whilst on a visit to Hangzhou and it was brilliant provided you like spicy food..!! real hot ... dont mind the waitresses snoozing whilst you eat though ( to be fair it was 2 pm....!)
