If I buy a PS3 in China will it work in England or would I need a plug adapter? I presume if I bought it in HK the plug would be UK style? Any power issues between the regions? I dont want to fry a PS3 when I take it back home. Thanks

China doesn't have their own version...its usually the HK, Japan, or maybe the US version that is available here. If you do buy one in HK, no reason why it won't work in England as long as the voltage is the same (plugs are a non-issue...just use an adapter). Problem is, any warranty service would need to be done in HK.

Note that PS3 build quality is pretty good, I haven't seen any failures in any of my friends or my PS3's, as opposed to everyone I know having issues with their 360's.

So I wouldn't worry too much about breaking it.

The PS3 is also multivoltage - 100-240v (at least the ones I've seen)

I just bought a PS3 in US. It said 120V only. Is that true? How hard is it to get an adapter to use in SH?

You can buy a step-down transformer here that goes 220/240 to 110/120. Very easy to get. I use one for my Xbox 360 that I got in an game shop. Its made by Microsoft and rated for 400 watts output. Cost me about $16 if I remember.

You can also buy step down transformers in Wal Mart and Carrefour but you need to make sure the output can handle the needs of your gaming system. ie don't buy a 100watt output when your systems needs higher capacity.

Thanks for the info Jeff, appreciate it.

How about games and blue ray selection in Shanghai? I saw lots of blueray movies for 5RMB everywhere on the street, I am pretty sure they are not. Any place where I can get BD movies with a reasonable price? Also how about games?

Very limited amount of blue ray here.

Most of the HD disks are in MiniBD format. (MP4 encoded on DVD9)
Those work fine in a PS3 though, and look good. You can buy at some game stores, or from Taobao.

Games - only real ones - 180RMB up to 400RMB depending on age.
Or you can see if others want to swap with you.

My favorites on PS3 -
Assassin's Creed
Little Big Adventure
Grand Turismo (had the chair and the whole setup before).
Also had Resistance, Fall of Man with mine, but finished it too quickly!

In some ways the games being expensive is good - means you actually put more time into them. On the 360 if I wasn't into it within 5 - 10 minutes, it would go on the boring pile...

Lawrence.

Yickes, better stock up on games then cause its cheaper here in US.

How bout the MiniBD how much will I have to pay for that in SH. I'll be living at Jing An, Nanjing Lu. Where is the nearest game store to go?

thanks again for the info, you guys have been really helpful.

I have brought Blue Ray disks here and play them in my Xbox 360. Either my Xbox 360 is supermodded! Or they are just better quality movies on blue color disks. The quality is better than regular disks.

This is China... Nothing is real except the pollution. (My new motto.)

Hi,
I went today to the shop on Beijing xi lu. The PS3 40Go (from HK) is 2450RMB (the guy told me it's a new one, but the box was not Smile ).
The games are 300RMB(Fifa09, NBA live09, Medal of honor, MGS04, Brothers in Arm...).
The remote control is 290RMB.
Are the price good ?

Computersolutions, where do you buy the game for 180RMB ?

What about the warranty ? Is it possible to have an international warranty if I buy the PS3 in Shanghai ? (I'm going back to France soon).

I am looking for PS3 PAL version, as it would be used in Europe. I was yesterday looking for this, but could not find any other than NTSC versions, which are for local market.

Any ideas how to find PAL version in Shanghai?
Or would perhaps this PS3 Hong Kong version be fit for both NTSC and PAL?

Thanks a lot for comments.

ps. yesterday saw ok looking new PS3 80g (NTSC version ceramic white, cechl12cw), asking price 2668 rmb.

Bought Condemned 2 when I first got my PS3. Played it a little and didn't like it all too much (saw no thrill in beating up homeless people possessed by demons). Its now sitting on my shelf.

Played through Medal of Honor: Airborne a few times and I love that game. Sad to say I was disappointed with The Force Unleashed...the programmers could have done so much more with this game.

Just got Call to Duty: World at War and its ok...not as good as MoH.

Call to Duty: World at War, yeah it was ok. Did you play Nazi Zombies at the end?

The Force Unleashed, not the est Star Wars game, thats for sure. Battlefront was much better.

Medal of Honor: Airborne, Yep, a very good series.
