Post subject: Z visa/resident permit change to a F visa????

Hi,
This topic has probably already been answered, but I’m new to this site and need a quick truthful response!

I am an Australian who currently has a Z visa and Resident permit. My resident permit expires on the 31st August. However, I am quitting my job very soon (in the next week) and I want to exchange my current status (Z visa) to a F Visa.

I would like a 6 month F visa as I am leaving the country on the 11th of December this year! I'm living in Wuxi, Jiangsu at the moment! I understand that I have to get the letter from my employer, stating that I have quit; but if I get that this week, will I be able to use that document to convert my visa closer to my resident permit expiry date (august 31st)----I have been told that I can keep my resident permit once I quit my job if I hold my passport! Is this correct? and also, I would LOVE it, if I didn't have to fly to Hong Kong. Can it be done?

Any help??

Thanks a bunch

Thomas

You only keep a residence permit on a "Z" or "X" visa.

Generally, once you inform the PSB that you have left your job, they will give you 30 days to leave. I'm not sure if they will let you change to an "F" visa. Check some of the visa agents that post here and see what they say or just call the local PSB and ask. There is a chance, though, you might have to go to Hong Kong.
