Will I be able to buy a big (king or queen), North American-sized bed, box spring, and mattress in Shanghai? Or, will only hard Chinese mattresses and smaller beds be available for purchase? Thanks

HOLA located at Brilliance West mall is a home super store that should not only carry all the items mentioned by the OP, but the quality of these should be better than that found at Walmart, Hymall, Carrfour or Lotus.. Here is my previous entry on the mall and a few places such as HOLA

As for beds, North American sized beds can be found and/ or ordered made here in Shanghai. Hope Sertas are good enough for ya. Wink
If you do a search on the site, you would have found this:

Our family has bought numerous mattress/ box sets from this place (I think like a dozen or so for our apartments here in SH) . they have a variety of beds and the factory showroom is here in Shanghai so you can go in and try it out. We got just a little off the list price but its WELL worth the taxi ride out. Smile

By the way, i guess i have been shortchange some how. I did not manage to get a internet broadband nor a telephone line from the landlord. So anyone knows where i can get them? Where do i apply for them?

In addition, my fren recommended me a cable guy the other day, the price they quoted me is around RMB3,600 with monthly subscription of RMB500. What do you guys think? Cos i have another fren who told me the price he got was RMB1,200 but he needs to change the cards every year. Please advise. Thanks!

There's a difference between internet 'cable' and 'cable TV' and satellite TV.
-Internet 'cable' is almost always ADSL, and you can have a 1/4, 1/2, 1, or 5 Mb (not MB) connection, and the price varies for each one. FTTB is more expensive but not always faster, search other threads for a lot of information on this subject.
-Cable TV is 99.9% Chinese. Some people have a cable in their apartment with western or non-Chinese shows, but this comes from a satellite, only the landlord takes care of it rather than you.
-Satellite TV. This is the 'cable TV' that you take care of yourself, and again, there are many options and many prices, and many ways to get a worse deal than your neighbor. It is also illegal, it is also everywhere.

Hi sorry for not making myself clearer. I meant satelite TV. So is $3,600 for installation on the high side? By the way so where do you go to apply for broadband internet connection and a telephone line? Thanks!
