Post subject: Yet another china fake - water

Why oh why, China? One fake food after another, when will it ever end? Is this to shorten the lifespan of your people (and the rest of the world) so you can keep population under control????????

Now China points finger at "fake" water

Reuters

BEIJING, July 10 (Reuters) - Up to half of the water used in water coolers across China's capital could be "fake", or not as pure as its manufacturers claim, state media said on Tuesday of the latest in a series of health scares.

The bogus water was either tap water or purified water of miscellaneous small brands poured into empty barrels sealed with quality standard marks, the Daily said, quoting Liu Xiaoyun, the Beijing sales manager of a bottled water brand.

Liu said the counterfeits began to appear in Beijing in 2002, five years after barrelled, as opposed to bottled, water emerged as an industry.

Four suppliers dominated the water cooler market, Liu was quoted as saying. Of an annual sales volume of at least 200 million barrels, 100 million were counterfeit.

"Overall, a barrel of fake water costs bogus producers only 2.5 yuan ($0.33) to 3 yuan, whereas the real ones cost them 6 yuan each," the China Daily said. "In either case, a barrel of water is sold at well over 10 yuan in the market."

The lack of supervision had given "leverage" to counterfeit makers in each chain of the production process, from corporate distributors to unauthorised workshops and water delivery stations, the newspaper said.

Three years ago, a nationwide inspection on barrelled water found a 22 percent substandard rate. In the most serious case, 80 percent of barrelled water in the southern province of Jiangxi was reportedly not the real thing.

China's health safety failings have drawn world attention since mislabelled chemical exports were found in cough syrup in Panama and pet food in the United States. There have been a series of recalls and bans on items ranging from toys and drugs to seafood and toothpaste.

yeah already posted this morning

http://www.shanghaiexpat.com/index.php?name=MDForum&file=viewtopic&t=6 2370

thus my search for a safe drinking water alternative. Finally found one too. A reverse osmosis water treatment filter that takes all the bad stuff out and then reintroduces minerals as its processed. Smile AND its made to handle local water so the filters don't get clogged up like the imported ones do. Smile

The place that has it has no English set up yet but if anyone is interested, drop me a PM with email address and i can email you the info I got on it so far. Oh, cost is under 4000rmb including a dedicated built in filtered water faucet and certified filter and parts.

Don't forget the water bottles....some cheapos like to make them out of recycled plastics. With the original usage of the plastic unknown, or cleanliness unknown.

Actually thats a concern with parts on a water filter as well... for parts that contact water, this filter has all NEW Imported plastic parts so no recycled parts and no plastic outgassing into the water system.

That's a really nice setup yu888. I used to use ROs all the time when I had a reef aquarium back in the states...and had actually thought about getting one here.

had it installed at the office and everyone loves it. bought one for home that I've not been around to call the installer yet... Embarassed given that it takes a hole in the sink or counter for the extra drinking water spiget, i defintiely want to be there for the cutting of the hole. Despite knowing they have been doing a great job so far, you still never know the logic of some of these installers...
