| Post subject: How/Where can u find a company to 'expat' U |
Greetings All,
This might be a very silly and stupid question, but I just have to ask: How/where can you find a company that offers jobs which are dispatched to China?
For some of the Expats on this forum, would you share which company are you work for, and how did you find the job?
Thanks very much. |

First you have got to be doing the kind of job that gets you sent to China as an expat.
Senior manager, specialist of some kind, consultant, certain technical/engineering.
Teaching, IT work, many other jobs; most have a contract with a local company so it's not a completely expat deal. (i.e. sent to China)
Bear in mind that if a local person can do the job then usually expat packages are not offered. |

from head hunters
company you worked before
from specialized publications (job magazines)
thousands of job websites
depends also what kind of job you are looking for.
go online and google .................. type something like get a job in china and you will have hundreds of websites offereing positions in china look at it
if you tell people what you are looking for (job i mean) they can help you |

My company Shanghaied me to China..
Kidding aside, they posted an ad HK, Singapore and in my country for the position. They interviewed applicants from these countriesnthen made the choice. I probably asked for the least remuneration thats why i got the job. |

I agree with what Bonnie said, but also I think you have to be flexible about where you work. Companies that send people abroad on business often do so to a number of countries and cities. If you're only prepared to go to Shanghai then you're not much use to them. |

I would also caution and say that China expat packages aren't what they used to be... unless you're a CEO of a fortune 500. |

The industry you're in plays also plays a big part. For example, the investment banking/venture capital/private equity areas are hot now and it's extremely difficult to find good people globally, much less local Chinese. So, expat packages would be easier to come by for those jobs, if you have the requisite background. |
