Just moved form London to Shanghai. Went to Delhi Zaika tonight for Indian food which was utterly fantastic. The paya curry, lentil +chicken soup. Malai chicken BBQ. It has the best Tandoori chicken I have ever tasted and trust me Ive had plenty. Almost 125 yuan per head with drinks. Ambiance was ok but the food more then made up for it. |

The chicken at the Blarney Stone reminded me of home. But the prices confirmed my suspicion that everything here (western that is) is three times the price it is in the UK. I'll be back but maybe not as often as I'd like. |

At the El Panini at the corner of Wujiang Lu and Shimen Yi Lu (enter from the stairs on the west side of Wujiang Lu = it's in the new part of the snack street). Had the dinner special starter+entree for 50+diet coke for 10. Had a Salad and a chicken sandwich, both of which was pretty good. A lot of stuff on that (extensive) menu looked quite good, so I'll probably try it every once in while since I have to get off Nanjing Xi Lu subway everyday and am a bit tired of Wagas... |

Shintori - Julu Lu - Rock and Roll Salad a winner, along with the beef in the leaf, on the hot rock thing - really tasty. Still a big wow factor if you have visitors and the arrival experience never gets tired. Only disappointment is the lack of wines available by the glass. Having only one house Chardy or a Cab/Sav/Merlot isn't extensive enough for a restaurant of that calibre. Found out it was the same options at their bar next door (People too. |

Wife loves teppanyaki. Been to Julia, Kagen & Tairyo teppanyaki. Would like to try different places other than those three. Looking for recommendations from teppanyaki fans out there. |

This time of year you'rve really got to be careful. I'm not sure which is worse, the street places that don't know what refrigeration is or the supposedly western-food places that absolutely don't have a clue. Cutting boards with chicken and vegetables unwashed or washed with cold water or pisswater from the toilets ... in this weather, especially no-no.
Until mid-September, be paranoid about food. |

The Pantry, 87th Floor of the SWFC in Pudong, in the Grand Hyatt. Buffet costs 380 RMB per person, plus drinks, but was well worth it for the food, the ambience, and the view. Smallish restaurant, only seats around 50 and was less than half full. Attentive and pleasant staff, low light, ask for a window table and there are brass telescopes beside the windows that you can view the city with.
Cold starter buffet that included 4 different kinds of smoked fish as well as prawns and scallops on ice, and some nice salads and veg.
Main buffet is cooked to order in small portions, but is fresh and delicious. We had to try them all....Tiger prawns (twice), Foie Gras, Veal tips, Pigeon Casserole, Black Cod, Calamari and Australian beef..was boorish enough to request some steamed rice with the beef after explaining i didn't want the fried rice from the starters buffet.
Wine list is decent, can be very pricy, but found a very good Riesling for 320 RMB, and then <gasp> dessert....they had a couple of cheesecakes that looked good, and a chocolate mousse that was excellent.
4 stars. The writeup in Cityweekend did it justice.
Unable to move after a three hour dinner, but still went up to the Jazz Bar on the 92nd floor for a drink or two... |

Yin, a perennial favorite, has relocated to Four Hengshan Lu, near Wulumuqi Lu, on the second floor of a block-length clutch of restaurants. Their lease in the alley off the grounds of the Jinjiang Hotel ran out a few months ago and they couldn't afford to renew it. On the inside the Old Shanghai decor remains intact, only in a smaller setting. In a way it's more cozy, because less spread out. The likes of Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday still take up the tunes. The biggest difference is knowing that you're not really inside an authentically old Shanghai building, like before. The food is still great; maybe even better than ever. Shanghai style, but light on the sugar and oil. (If that's an oxymoron, so be it.) Had the best jellyfish I've ever tasted, their signature and scrumptious ba bao ya, and a delicious fish. My girlfriend, who never knew the old place, loved it. 5466 5070. |

Great ambience and cultural flavor. Once in the main door, you'll see decor revealing the Northeastern cultural distinctions. Waiters all dress in traditional garb, and 3 waitresses actually got together and sang a ethnic folksong when we ordered a dragon fish dish. I recommend the tofu, but in all the food wasn't very spectacular. Go for the ethnic flavor and for something different.
Average price per person: 50 rmb
Go in a big group to try several dishes. Good value-for-money. |

For lunch in Jing An Dist.. if you are light eater and want just a fresh salad bar ( not a full buffet ) you should check out Moons Steakhouse at the Swiss Hotel on YuYuan Lu near Changle Lu for the lunch 48 RMB all you can eat salad bar. Really good fresh salads, some protein goodies, bread, and light dessert. Its worth it. |

At home. I made chicken fried rice for me and my girlfriend. Tonight I'm making macaroni and cheese. |

Japanese style Restaurant
Maotai Lu / Gubei Lu
Suprised how this joint can sell the all you can eat at 98 RMB.
The fish used in the sashimi was good, the shrimp tempura was actually better than uminosachi, they have a hot plate where you greill your meats. The beef was good quality, short ribs, sirloin, etc
There were some japanese people eating lst night that shows the food was not bad..at 98 its a steal. With unlimited beer and sake |

Actually this is not last night, more like last Sunday. Ate at Hunan memory (or is it memories of hunan). got the address from That's Shanghai. Pretty good. It's not as hot as I expect from hunan cuisine (then again I am probably not an expert of Hunan cuisine to be begin with) and it's pretty cheap with bountiful servings. |
