Post subject: What kind of local living services you are looking for

Hey guys, I know as an expat who is a new in shanghai as well as has the difficulty of communicating with local people here(most of the local cannot speak English), you must have lots of living problems, such as looking for a guy to fix your laptop or TV set, looking for Ayi to clean the house, even look for a guy who can open the door when you lost your keys......there are some service agency who would help you but you are annoyed by the expensive charge only because they specialize in offer services for expats.....but the real local cheap services are really difficult to find on internet--you can only find them on the street in the small shop.

So I would like to do this survey, please reply this posts with the cheap local services you have difficulty to look for on internet--decorating, tailor, tutor...whatever, and I would like to collect them with their contact information from Chinese websites for you. Thank you!

Luckily I don't lock myself out of anywhere and I can fix most anything that needs fixing but...........I need to know who I can contact for inexpensive rentals in Puxie. All the ads on the real estate section of this web site seem to be aimed at people that are making way too much money. I am teaching Architecture here and do not make that much.........all I need is a nice studio but it has been very difficult to find.

I would always ask my local colleagues for help. I always get good recommandation. Not for cheap housing may be. That you have to do your own homework. For interior designer, ask someone who have done it themselves (with similar budget to yours, not too expensive and not too cheap), you will get the best recommandation. Never call a interior design company cold just because they have a big ad somewhere.

"Local cultural" guides
- not your usual tours or language lessons, but lessons on what/ where/ how to buy, local brands, things like that. Sick of always seeing expats being overcharged for everything and no good reason.

Hi, you can go to www.kijiji.cn the largest classifieds website in Shanghai, they have all kinds of categories including Service Category.

1. Is there a service I can call for someone to simply shop for groceries on my behalf from a nearby supermarket like Hualian, and deliver to my place? Or does Hualian itself have this service?

2. How about arranging for someone to deliver my meals on time each day?

Is there a number that I could call if i need Chinese-English translation. Like when im in a salon, or in a restaurant and no one speak English. Is there a number I could call and can help us communicate?
