Why when I search for pictures on google images do the majority of the pictures not come through ? Only little red-x boxes and won't actually download the images ??? |

either the link is broken, or your download speed times out, or the pic is no longer embedded in the webpage you are viewing, or that there is some blockade in place like the big TIC firewall.
one way to check is by loading the same URL using a different browser or... |

Same problem here.
It seems that if you do a number of consecutive searches the china firewall will block you after the third or fourth search/page refresh.
How to overcome the obstacle:
-Use alternative image searche engine (altavista images for example)
-Use a VPN such as witopia.net (i use that a lot), that completely bypasses the source of the outage
-Wait for the permanent blockage of google images to time out
I am sure that more technical people could give a better explanation...
It's highly annoying isnt it? |

It's really dumb is what it is. No one in China gives a rat's ass about a certain famous group of dissidents but screw with our Internet access (businesses most of all) and you court unrest ! Nothing pisses one off at work more than trying to get some info but can't because of the stewpid great firewall. |

its been GFW'ed i use it a lot for work. after 2-3 pages or about 5 mins it does it.
then i swap to Yahoo which lasts about 15 mins, then i swap to Live.com. |

it is a pain in the neck indeed. like i would use google image search if i would want to see porn images...
going via proxies is not the best thing anymore either , as they start blocking them as well... |

So what's the 'best' solution then - to just sitehop hoping that you can get what you're looking for before the door of the GFW slams shut on you ???

No, get the guys back home to open up a vpn tunnel for you and search from that IP. Sucks is right. Google images is one of the best ways to show people what you are looking for. Or it was 
I wonder if your guys could just set up squid or another proxy in the US and give you access through that ? Depends on how sophisticated the gfw is, probably ? Would be really easy to try. Home office must be using a proxy, ask them to give you access. |
