City Shop - for the once a month stock up on Western treats.
Carrefour Gubei - good selection and reasonably priced, plus seems cleaner than the rest of their branches.
Freshmart Jing An - would have placed higher if it wasn't for the dodgy Sushi that I eat from there the other day.. netherless a good meat selection. |

for convenient shopping (staple food without wasting too much time & money): Jiadeli
for quick take-away meals 24/7: Lawson
for fresh veg & fruit: your local wet market.
For imported food: City Supermarket Hongmei Lu
Honestly, I avoid Carrefour & Metro whenever possible. |

I used to shop in Lotus Pudong 2 years ago...
Last year, one clean nice supermarket opened in Xizhang nan Lu / Fuxing LU: E-mart
But recently, the Century (big) supermarket in Xizhang Nan Lu, after Lujiaban Lu has a nice imported section of dry products...

Maybe becoz of convenience , becoz you are busy with work? otherwise, nothing beats a street market between 5:30pm and 6:30pm... The one behind the gate of my apartment sells all vegeatbles and fruits for a small fraction of prices in supermarkets. |

Dagu Lu Market.
Awesome fruits and vegetable.
Decent beef and chicken...once you develop a relationship and explain what you want...if it is Western cuts of beef.
Brought them a Sirloin I had purchased at Freshmart,...still in the package.
(Not something you will find in a Chinese Market)
Now when I want a sirloin....walk over and order it for the next day. They see me coming down the aisle...and about 5 of the vendors start laughing and screaming sil-loin! sil-loin!
Half the price....about the same quality |
