I agree the 360 really needs a redesign. It was basically rushed to market to beat the PS3 out. With almost 20 million sold, and the Xbox making a profit for the first time ever (even including the original Xbox days), I guess their plan worked. Release a buggy, in some ways half-assed system, and fix and patch it up later, to get to market first. I have one of the newer ones and it's not near as noisy as older ones, but by no means quiet.
I liked the Wii at first but the novelty really wore off after a while. It's great for casual gamers and wives and girlfriends etc, but there's just a lack of depth imo.
This guy is doing some cool stuff with the Wii, surprised Nintendo hasn't given him a job yet.

Heard about the PS3, hope a good mod solution is not too far off. Not enough games worth paying retail for imo. |

Turok was one of the better games I played on Xbox 360.
Now playing COD AIRBORNE and it is a good game.
I have an INTERCOOLER fan - makes a hell of a racket.... |

Can anyone recommend a good, honest shop to have a Xbox360 modified so that the region locked games can be played? And about how much would it cost?
For my kids, I bought a 360 along with some games from HK ToysrUs last Christmas. When we were back in the US last month, we bought some more games there. But a lot of them don't play because of the region coding lock. My kids don't get on Xbox Live anyway, so they wouldn't really care about the banning issue. Just need a good, honest shop to get this thing "fixed" but at the same time not damage the box.
Thanks. |

Anybody have issues signing up to Xbox Live these few days?
I've a unmodded xbox and can't get the marketplace blade to load. It seems to still connect to Live since I can download updates and some other operation, but just can't have the blade to load. |

^I read that it's a problem with the HDD, I have 3 blades that take about 10 minutes to load but it is not related to my Live account, which always connects easily. They released a patch about 5 months ago to update the home pages/blades, which is when I started having this problem. |

1) are you sure have an xbox360 that will accept an hdmi cable, there's very few that do (just checking, i saw a few people get fooled by one of the openings on the back of the unit)
2) a standard hdmi cable will work, no need to get the 'official' $$$ xbox one. all the electronics malls have them, or Best Buy. Some Sunings and similar appliance/TV stores have them too.
They are about the most expensive cable, per meter/foot, for A/V, but there's no need to pay western prices for one here. |

Ok my xbox live problem is now fixed...
I'm not sure which one of the things I did fixed it but here goes.
1. Clear Hard drive cache
2. Delete the Marketplace Item from the hardrive (~1mb)
3. Recover my game tag.
Basically the problem didn't cure itself right after I did the above, so most likely I didn't fix it. The server could just be having problems over the weekend.
Google can provide the details instruction of the 3 things I've tried. |

^ Its between ChengDe Lu & Jiaozhou Lu. Last time I looked he wasn't stocking Rock Band. Have you bought the instruments for that game like Guitar Hero, otherwise no fun in pressing buttons. |

@Dazza - Thats a different store.
The one I'm talking about is on Jiang Ning lu near Chang Shou lu, a block or two up from An Yuan lu. They most definitely have Rock Band, I see it every week that i'm in there on the shelf.
@MrSoul - Also check the stores on Nanjing lu / Wulumuqi lu - there is a mall there with a few stores.
If you really can't find it, let me know, and I can order via Taobao or ask the Jiang Ning lu store the price next time I'm there (not likely to be until the weekend though).

Greetings Gang,
I started from the beginning and and have finally made it to the end so I can post. I've taken enough notes from YOU, "The panel of Experts." (True sentiment and with no sarcasm) I've got a good idea about the questions I am about to ask from all the previous posts BUT, much of the information gathered has seen many moons pass.
So here goes:
Current price for XBOX/XBOX 360? I jotted down some of the rates you all had quoted but was hoping for something more updated.
Given that the system has changed and/or been tweaked a bit since the original thread started, what would be the best package to try and get now? There was mention on several occasions that the '65nm' is the better way to go. Having the Beng DVD drive was also good. HD cables, and on & on.
Primarily, getting this unit is all about playing the games. Going online to play would be cool but is not extremely important. If there is a way to do it then sure, I'd be up for it.
With all the posts/talk about units made in/outside of China, which is the better way to go on that? Being no different than anyone else, I just want something that will last for a good while. Hassle free as it were.
Games: I am aware that there are going to be a great many titles to choose from. This being my first Xbox, that reason alone is going to make this a great adventure. But are the older titles easy to find?
Ultimately, I am going to be buying this unit. Today, just seeking your guidance on the key points/questions above. Also, if there is a highly recommended or favorite shop out of the ones that were mentioned here within the forum??
I thank you all in advance for your time. I hope this was not to much of a bore to read through.
Again, Many thanks!!! |

@ShanghaiFace
The HK model is 240v, just like China.
The Japan / Taiwan models are 110v, so would need a convertor.
Given the serious suckage of the 360 PSU, I'd really recommend spending the extra for a unit with the correct voltage.
The 65nm model uses a better designed motherboard thats less likely to overheat (as well as a newer cpu). You can usually tell what model it is - if it has a HDMI socket, or if it says 175W on the back its a new model. Pretty much all the 360's for sale should be 65nm now. If it isn't the shop is trying to sell you year old stock, so go somewhere else thats not trying to rip you off.
more here -> http://forums.xbox.com/15804553/ShowPost.aspx
I wouldn't concern yourself about the drive, its not something you'll be messing about with.
All units sold here will be pre-cracked for you.
Prices should be around or less than 3k for a HK unit with 1 controller + 5 games. For some reason taobao doesn't want to work at the moment, so I can't double check.
(Games are about 6-10rmb depending if they are single or dual layer).
Be aware that 360's are extremely noisy, noticeably so, even with the new 65nm ones.
Older games should be reasonably easy to find, and the tried and trusted method of download from the net also works.
Most shops will be happy to sell you the old games so that they can finally get rid of them

Hi all. I,m fairly new to Shanghai and have just got back from Hong Kong with a new Xbox 360 Elite. And yes, you’re right it does sound like Air Force One is in the lounge! I just wanted to know if any one has an Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote that they don’t want or want to sell?
And does anyone know where in Shanghai I can buy original games, besides Asia games? I’m a bit sceptical of buying non-original games, as I bought a couple in Hong Kong that won’t play. And i dont want to hack my Xbox.
Cheers & Beers TREV |

Microsoft does not officially support mainland China as a market for xbox stuff, so the internet is maybe your best bet. A few of the hack shops have a few games that seam 'real', but the region codes of the disks vary. |

Order them From Play-Asia.com
they all work if you follow the Region Code Guide.
They test all the games on different consoles and report it on the games |

I play Saints Row right now. Bit of GTA rip off but keeps you busy until GTA get's out soon. Bioshock is neat but I cannot get into it really . Nice graphics though. Took out Gun ( old game I know ) again and played around with it. Makes for good entertainment. Test drive unlimited ( even older, I know ) but fun. Crimson Skies is good on Multiplayer though and a fun story line in single player too. Graphics a bit old but I really liked the story line. Played Two kingdoms which lasted all of 10minutes before I tossed it. I like mindless RPG but that one was just awful. Also played around with Area51Backside or something like that. Mindless FPS but interestig war in baghdad background that is totaly absurd. But entertaining. Good old skate is still kicking around. Can't really get into FIFA. On PS3 I got Dark Sector, Devil May Cry and uncharted: Drakes fortune going. |

Mini Reviews of the new stuff this week
GTA4 -
Just gave it a go, wasn't too impressed. More of the same.
Then again, I usually just drive through people and treat it like Burnout...
Controls seem more awkward than before. Previously is was easy to open a car door and throw someone out. Now it takes a good few goes on the stick.
More worrying a lot of the edge detection was bloody shoddy. I could jump on a car, and walk waaaay off the edge without falling down. Gameplay wise, its not my cup of tea, but for those fans of the genre, its probably going to be the bee's knee's. Personally, I think they could have done better.
Other stuff -
Played The Club - thats ok for what it is. Mindless shootem up race through's. Played that for longer than GTA4, as it was more fun.
Army Of Two - complete crap. Not worth the 6rmb.
Universe at War - has potential, but the controls are sucky. Essentially a complete copy of Command and Conquer RTS, but with badly thought out controls. |

Has anyone purchased a NON modded / chipped 360 here in Shanghai? I want to get one so that I can do X Box Live and the resellers told me they can reserve one for me, but Lawrence / Computer Solutions' post that ALL boxes sold here are modded has me concerned. |
