I bought a 220v to 100/110 v Xbox / Microsoft step down converter from a game shop. It's 400 or 500 watts and cost about 150 rmb. It's a Microsoft product and worked without fail for over 1.5 years - much more reliable than my Xbox which has RRD or E74 3 times already... |

actually I can't give you addresses because I don't know them.
However, shops that sell Xbox stuff usually have them because they sell the Japanese Xboxs that have 100v.
Sorry can't be more help. |

You can get it from the shop at 1601 Beijing Lu or at the games/electronics mall at the corner of Nanjing Lu/Wulumuqi Lu. Can't remember the cost of one of these things but i don't think it's much. |

What price should I pay these days for a new 360? Preferably the 60Gb version which has resolved the heat issues. Are these still noisy? |

new arcade models go for about 1800 +/- 100 but they have no HD. Recommend you get the arcade model produced December 2008 or later and then buy a HD separate. |

Any size hard drive recommended? Also, can XBLA games like Banjo Kazooie be purchased as copies? |

hd size is relative to your needs.
20 gm is enough to store 1 game at a time, for me it's ok because I usually delete the game after I finish it.
if you want to save lots of stuff then 60 or higher.
Some shops will make a homebrew hd for you cheaper. |

^For starters you need an unmodded console with the original game, MS can pick up on a modded one and effectively block your account. Had a friend who brought his console here from Hong Kong as he already had a live account, and some days he would get serious lag on his connection. |

do they mod xboxes too at the beijing lu gameshop? if so does anyone know the cost? as i've understood the xbox will be able to read all region games then (and copied ones of course)?
Did anyone ever get banned for modding without playing games over live? I would like to be able to buy XBLA games despite having a modded box .. |

There are several Xbox unofficial www sites that cover these questions so I recommend you do some Google searches. Some people have written mod-scripts to install on a modded Box that prevent Microsoft from detecting that you play on modded / backup games.
To mod an Xbox should cost as little as 100 rmb depending on your negotiation skills. Often they just install a new dvd drive and firmware. |

it's easier to get games if you buy a HK/Asia version. There are almost no USA games sold in mainland China. |

95% of Xbox Games are region free, but for example Fallout 3 is only PAL and NTSC U/C as well as Forza 2, I could not find Asia versions. Also I buy games from Play-Asia, there a lot of US games and delivery is free to Mainland China. |

not 95%, but www.playasia.com has a comprehensive list. The % varies depending on which games you like. |

It depends on game publisher. Microsoft & Activision are 100% region free. Valve games are also region free. EA is region locked, almost all of them.
P.S.
There is no one here playing Live? |

I have an XBox 360 for sale if anyone's interested...
Bought 6 months ago from Metro City, it's a Japanese import with 60Gb hard drive, two controllers (with ordinary battery packs as well as rechargeable wireless power packs), remote control for the DVD, power brick and adaptor, all connecting leads etc. It's chipped. I still have all the packaging and manuals etc (in Japanese...). No RRoD.
PM me if you're interested. Make me a sensible offer. |
