Thanks SF.
I've been to Beijing a couple of times, but only briefly, and with little time to explore (work work work); but I did discover that I didn't need a step-down converter for the appliances I bought. Apparently we (Aus/PRC) share power standards.
Xbox Live isn't a drama as I won't be using it anyway. The broadband where I live is horribly chuggy.
Looking forward to hearing back about where I should start.
Thanks again! |

alright !
here's what my colleague got back with , not sure if you're familiar with these areas , but I hope it helps anyways :
Apparently Wangfujiang is the most expensive area in Beijing . He recommends going to Lan Dao ( close to the Swiss Hotel ) and Zhong Guan Cun ( Beijing University ) where there are plenty of electronics markets/shops and you should be able to find the cheapest prices there...
Good luck |

I just moved to Shanghai from Beijing...
Go to ZhongGuanCun technology market. There are several buildings selling camera's, computers and the like, but look for the McDonald's. It's on the North-west corner of a building set back from the main road a bit. Go down to the basement floor (just find the McDonald's)... Across from McD's and the excalator is a shop with a big HDTV and a PS3 playing...skip that. They never have what's in the catalogue, but they do have the Guitar Hero guitar pack. On the other side of McD's is a little square stand alone shop that is all games. Not a bad place. The Mother Load is a little shop on the South West corner of the shopping area of that floor, behind the iPod kiosks and next to some ATM's and a vending machine. She is right on the corner. She seems to be the source, since the other places run to her to pick up the games.
Other than that, you can walk around as ask people. There are plenty of people selling games.
Good Luck! If you find Madden '08, pick it up for me...I'll pay you when you get back ! haha
Don't pay more than 15 for ANY game. Actually you should pay 10, but some will try and charge you more and say it's "Dvd 9!" and should be more. Don't fall for it. 10rmb...15 if you are in a good mood. |

Ohh...and ZhongGuanCun is on the South-East corner of ZhongGuanCun Bei lu and the 4th ring road I believe. Just take the 4th ring road to the ZGC exit, make a left and it's immediately on the right hand side of the road. |

Great, thanks for the advice.
I'm staying in Wangfujing, but it's easy enough to get to ZhongGuanCun on the train. I've been there before, albeit very briefly. Thanks to ShaunC's incredibly detailed description I doubt I'll get lost!
Anyone know if modded Wii's are also readily available in PRC? I'd like to pick one of those up as well. |

Sir...I have an original, but from the US and it won't play on my HK chipped box. I want one that plays, original or...not.
I went around to the Pudong tech mart and nobody had it yet. Albeit that was 2 weeks ago. |

Shaun, I picked up a copy the other day, so it should be available. If you still have problems finding it let me know
ClawShrimp : Modded Wii's are available . However the only ones i've seen so far are the japanese ones and you cant switch the language to english , which is a bit of a bummer |

I've been looking around for an xbox360. In the xujiahui subway station, one of those stores quoted me 2500. The shops in metrocity quoted me 2600 and 2700. Didn't ask what it included, just know they were modded. If anybody has any recommendations for a place to get one, let me know. |

Just paid 2550 for Modded Taiwan xbox360. It was the standard bundle...wireless controller, headset, lan cable, HDTV cable, power supply. I paid extra for a fan, additional controller and power reducer for 220 to 110V 300W. Games 8 RMB a piece.
Side Note - Anyone know where I can get the guitar for guitar hero? |

fyi - i melted a 300W voltage convertor after a 10 hour 360 marathon session, but it will work if only for a couple hours at a time, but check to see how hot it is and then this next sentence will make more sense. if you multiple the voltage and current required, power = voltage times current, you'll find the 360 requires about 650W, plus more for the fan. An 800W convertor with a fuse and an on-off switch is only 100rmb more. |

Fiddler,
I will try that shop when I am out today. What is a fortune, can you give me some idea about what it cost you for the original?
Thanks |

Thanks Oilman. I'll see if I can get it around that price. How much was the additional controller and power reducer? I'm kind of lazy and haven't gotten my ass out to ask those shops. Also, how to the xboxes handle fake dvds? The movie kind. |

Played a game the other day that said it needed an update. I believe it was Madden 2008, when it asked for to begin the update I clicked okay and it updated on its' own. I didn't have it connected to the internet, so I don't know if it did anything, but the game began after a minute. |

Well on the other hand, it seems that alot of people that bought the core systems, are not very very pissed because if they want the ELITE they have to buy a complete new one, there no upgrrade. |

in the beginning there were only 2, now there's 3 not including special editions. Get one of the 2 with the hard disk. |

I just returned from Shanghai to USA and found the new PSP was released here while I was gone. Does anyone there know when it will arrive for sale in Shanghai? My son wants one for Xmas and I want to buy it there so he can recharge it there.
Any info will be appreciated in that my husband is commuting back and forth until January and can pick one up there in the next few months.
Thanks! |
