| Post subject: Any recommendation for good Chinese History books? |
Hi, anybody here can recommend me good Chinese History books (in English - of course )?
I'm going to have that class next semester, and I think I shall make some preparation before it... because it will be in Chinese...
Would be wonderful if you can mention where did you get it too (if you bought it in Shanghai).
Thanks a lot |

Heroes of the Marshes; Water Margins

any way to ask the instructor for a reading list?
two off the top of my head -
Mao the Unknown Story by Chang and Halliday
The Search for Modern China by Jonathan Spence (actually he has several titles worth reading... ) |

Trouble is China has a blah blah blah million years of history...
What sort of period are you looking at?
For modern history read Jasper Becker's books 'The Chinese' and 'Hungry Ghosts'
Jun Chang's 'Wild Swans' gives many of the events from 1900 onwards. |
