Salaries under 5K? Jeez, my job at the Embassy now seems to me like heaven (although I didn't think that at the time), we were paid about 12500 for basically doing a no-brainer job (or close to nothing during quiet months) from 8 am to 4 pm and had both Chinese and British bank holidays off - and everyone was complaining to the management at every staff meeting that they were hugely underpaid and it was so unfair! Because we finished so early, a lot of people still had time for teaching in the afternoon and evening. No career development though... |
Depends on what you wants out of the jobs, I refused one (within call centre) paid more than the 5k I got coz I know my decision at that given time led me to a better today. Today if I got paid less than 15k, I believe it's underpay. Even 20k is merely closed to avg.
The opportunity to grow in China could be as fast as their Maglev, thou it only reaches short destination, if you know what I meant... |

Static, CONGRATULATIONS on your new job but America needs you!! Wouldn't you love President Bush to be able to do all of the above, or at least some?? There is a good chance that the next guy is going to need it, too... Sounds like Static, indeed, can't go into politics - how many politicians you know can analyse problems? Or think? He wouldn't survive...
Dragonass, you are right, and that's basically what I said in one of my previous posts - an Embassy job is good if you are desperate for money and not good for ANY career development. Good to hear that you are doing so well (I am not being sarcastic, I really mean it). |

hey man, i think probably it would be better for you to take this job and do some english tutoring meanwhile. You need to realize that more and more locals and speak fluent english and also come with their master degrees or even PHD. Shanghai is changing rapidly and foreigners are having less and less priorities; moreover, don't put too much attention on the salary of your first job cuz what you need is CASH and your new social network..GOOD LUCK |
