| Post subject: anyone following FIFA Womens world cup? |
I would imagine it is pretty big in China right now but no real posts on it.
Canada is playing Australia next to see who gets into the next round.
Maybe there is too much other sports going on at the moment for anyone to care, like the Rugby World Cup, opening of the soccer leagues etc.
Has anyone gone to any games, what was the atmosphere like? |

I went to England v Germany on Friday night (0-0) the atmosphere was great, all fans sat together, loads and loads of Chinese schoolkids bussed in to fill up the stadium. Mexican waves, baiting the opposition fans, had a great time although the action on the pitch was a fair bit slower and patchy than you're used to seeing from the men's game.
Definitely thinking about going to the final, the tickets go from, I think 80 (behind the goal) to 580 for the boxes above the half-way line. Our 100RMB seats were in the upper tier 1/4 of the way along the side, excellent view, a bargain.
No booze inside the ground though. |

we used to go to hongkou to watch shenhua. there was beer at the food outlets but you had to transfer it to paper cups as they wouldn't let you take the bottles in. always wondered why until we witnessed the chinese fans throwing anything they could get their hands on. |

I'm only in Shanghai for another few weeks now but I'm dead keen to get along and see a game if there's one on (preferably England, but it doesn't really matter). Does anyone know the schedule? James, where did you buy your tickets? |

Here you go.
We got one of the local guys in the office to call up so I'm not sure how you'll get on if you don't speak Chinese.
18 Sep - 20:00 Group B Nigeria USA
19 Sep - 17:00 Group C Norway Ghana
30 Sep - 17:00 Match for third place
30 Sep - 20:00 Final
A few games left in the Shanghai stadium, which is very impressive (apart from a so-so pitch). |

It's called the Hongkou Stadium, with a metro stop [Line 3] of the same name. |

Sep.17, 2007, Huanglong (yellow dragon) Stadium, Hangzhou, Group A, Germany vs. Japan.
Germany was like playing the host since all the audience were cheering for them. Huge German flags covered part of the stadium. Everyone seemed to be their fans and cheering waves lasted till the last minute. Each time they had a chance to score, people jumped out of their seats. Japan, on the other hand, was booed from very beginning, even when their national anthem was played.
Japan lost to Germany 0 to 2.
The Japanese players, probably very disappointed, still bowed to the fans with them holding a banner, saying “Arigato 谢谢 China” (thank you China).
Unprepared for this, the unfriendly audience, applauded for them. Some probably felt shamed too. |

Yeah I'm sure these Japanese ball players were involved in the Nanjing Massacre.
That racist crap really pisses me off! It's just ignorance! Sick! |

Are there still many Chinese who hate Japanese so much, gosh that war was so long time ago.
I cant even usually distinguish the difference between these two physically whenever I travel, they almost look the same yet hostile to each other. We need to spread more love... |

^yeah, they all look the same upside down
so germany won and without conceding a goal, quite impressive. i can't really see womens football catching on as the pace of the game is not suited to the size of the pitch, maybe reducing it would help.
as for japan, i still think the olympics next year will be the real test. japan will win medals and it should be interesting to see the crowds reaction when their flag is hoisted and anthem played, especially with the whole world watching(except burma). |
