Post subject: Beware of the "Profesional designer and Tailor" in

When I tried to help my German friend with her jacket that was not properly repaired, the people in the shop insulted me, they called me a foreigner's dog, and some extremist even threw his bowl of hot noodle soup to me. After I came back, I called the Shanghai Daily, she told me to write the story down and send it to her. She may have journalists do an investigation.

"Profesional designer and Tailor"

With eye-catching fashion brand magazine pictures and these serious words, the tailor-made clothing market has created a big business in Shanghai. I often see them and often pass by, but with my first experience last year I dared not to think I can trust them again. In 2005, one of the silk dresses I bought in Kings Street in London was damaged at the first wash by the dry cleaner in Shanghai. I loved it so much, but there was no way I could buy another one. When I came to Shanghai in March of last year, my Spanish friend Mary told me about the tailors and I decided to give it a go. So we went to the market with my damaged dress as a sample. To my disappointment, my dress was remade very differently to the sample dress. It was too short and the cutting had not been done in proportion, so it looked weird. Now it lies on the bottom of my wardrobe.

My second experience started from here. Annie is very charming lady and also my neighbour and friend. A few days ago, she went to Yuyuan Garden with Rena from Pudong by ferry. When they crossed the street, they were persuaded by a very friendly owner who spoke some English at the 16th peer cloth market. She showed them a picture from a fashion magazine. For 500 yuan they could make a suit, which is comparably a lot cheaper than in Europe. They couldn't resist and decided to give it a try. When they went to pick up the suit, there were too many problems they couldn't explain to her. Here was my trouble, I often help foreigners who are in China. I was asked to be an interpreter this morning. My friend told the owners the problems. It was too short; the sleeves and also the whole jacket didn't look the same as in the magazine. It actually didn't even come close to the image. The owners called the tailor to come and insisted that it was Annie's fault that Annie didn't correct the measures when the tailor showed her. The owners kept talking very loudly and very rudely. We tried to solve the problems, but it was impossible to talk to her: they did not do anything wrong. When I told Annie that they were angry with me that they said I was the one making troubles, Annie tried to explain her in simple English. They said they didn't understand English. When the tailor came, he started to insult me and said I was the one making trouble, otherwise this business is done. A shopper said that I said I dislike Chinese. Slowly more and more other shoppers gathered around us. None of them spoke honestly; they all pointed to me, a dog, shameless, betraying my own ancestors. At some point, a next door shopper was extremely rude and loud: he came towards me, and threw his bowl of noodles on me. I took pictures and called 110. The guy ran away, all the shoppers were saying that they didn't see anyone do it. Policemen came, there were long discussions. During this time, Annie was too worried about me and her eyes were filled with tears. At the end Annie got 150 refund out of 300 yuan. As to my case, they said this was caused by argument. They only asked the tailor to say "hi" and said there is nothing they can do and that they have been very fair.

Ok, on the way back home, both of us were so sad. I also mentioned to Annie a few things that I think she needs to be careful about. Annie and I said Rena would have trouble with them too.

I appreciate if anyone can any one can give me any suggestion to protect my right. I kept all the dirty cloth and also have pictures.

well, the business is too good for them, I don't think there is anything to do besides being angry about it.

Trust me, I have also gotten my share, like being kicked out form stores because I'm trying to bargain.

Welcome to China

actually, even you help your foreign friend to do some translation for her/him in china, then never put yourself on a situate like the tool in your life, and if you act like that, then this will make you down on the way of the others about how the others(us chinese) think of you when you help foreigners to bargain or even against with us chinese in China.

from what I understand from what you have written, the transaction is done and over with. At this point, you should just drop it and move on. If you don't let it go, it will make you bitter and angry. The very best thing you can do in dealing with such people is to have nothing to do with them. Do not pursue it.

Dearest Ms Nathalie

To explain my current situation, basically i have been accused of being a "bad man" by a girl of purest quality and Chinese persuasion.

I first met her in Zapatas Lounge Bar and Bistro and we then spent many a happy afternoon wandering down Waitan, YuYuan Gardens and the usual attractions of Shanghai.

But.........things changed. Waitan was not enough and soon she wanted Nanjing Xi Lu and the bright lights of Louis Vuitton and Big Bamboo. The money dried up, much like her, and soon we were at odds.

I still love her but the pain of separation followed by the fact that i have since found out i have a child, Billy(pictured below), has proven too much

What am i too do and who gets custody of the 300rmb oven from Carre Four.

Oh, I didn't know I posted it twice. After I posted it a few day ago, I couldn't find it, so yesterday I posted it again. There are some misunderstanding, there were so many things happened, be honest, I was astonished by the speed the shopper shouted.

En... I actually don't like to help the foreigners to bargain. I don't do bargain often either, get glocery at supermarket, buy things I need in shopping mall. The price in China is quite cheap already, campare to the countries where most foreigners come from, they shouldn't complain. Life is too tough for lot of shop owners, even worse for the street sellers. But I dislike the dishonest way of doing business.

My friend wanted her money back, I didn't suggest that to her. I do know in China, perhaps 90% of thgngs you are buying are norefundable.

No, total cost was 500 Yuan, 300 Yuan was deposit. When the suit turned out so terrible, my friend wanted the tailor to make it look nicer, but the shop owner blamed everything on my friend. A ridiculous thing is: she said My friend should have corrected the measure sizes when the tailor have showed her. My friend is not a tailor, and I guess most people don't know how long is your jacket, and sleeves. My friend gave up and wanted her money back. Annie is very new to China, when she insisted to get her money back, she didn't understand how things work in China. She was asking 200 Yuan refund. Yes, in some countries, it is possible, but in China Question
