Post subject: The Expat Show - review

It's pretty good. It's BIG. Takes much longer than you thought to look at everything, then again you probably aren't interested in everything. Lost count of how many international schools there are in Shanghai... If you're a wine drinker you'll love the free vino.

Oh and if you registered online and want the free handbook thing make sure to bring some kind of ID - anything with your name on it. I thought I didn't have any on me but luckily I did. I don't know why they need this though - the woman was actually quite rude.

Then again I probably just got treated like scum because I didn't give them a business card and didn't look like an expat (ie foreign). I really have a gripe with these people. I registered online then they still got me to fill out a stupid form (the exact same one but on paper) and then automatically turned it to the Chinese side for me. What am I doing at an expat show if I can read fluent Chinese? geez... Sick of people making dumb assumptions.

I wish I had more time to spend there but they closed at 5 today. but people were still lingering around past that time.

We were there today and was quite impressed. The booths were well organized. They did not clump all the financial people into one instead they were well spaced. We got much information under one roof and got the free Shanghai "The Complete Resident's Guide" by Explorer, cost is RMB200 and not out in the bookshops yet. The food in the show were good as well, even the great gelato people were there! We will definitely go again the next time it comes around. Good work...whoever organized it.

No one asked us for any ids but I did have the print out of my preregistration. We were not asked to fill in any forms, just gave us the visitors passes with our names when I showed my print-out. There were quite a few people at the door who were very helpful and directed us to the visitors' counter inside. Maybe someone read your post above and smarten up on their customer service.

Yes, no problem here and everyone was really friendly. Nice thing was no-one pressured us. Wine tasting was great also, came away prepared to restart a new drinking session. I also got my laser pen.
Downside is holidays to Guam, Cebu, Saipan and Malaysia are now in the pipeline. Plus side is, we couldn't dream of doing those trips from the UK.

I thought the show was well done, perhaps a few too many health-care providers, but all in all a fun couple of hours. One disappointment: I read in the Shanghai Daily that "people who subscribe at the event will get a free umbrella" but I subscribed and did not get one. Maybe they ran out or something...

^I believe that the "Show" has nothing to do with this website/forum. Shanghai Expat was a sponsor and have a booth there. The show's organiser was some other company hence the info are not the same.

Thanks Shanghai Expat for the laser/light pen Wink

I think is was well organised with very few pushy sales people. Well Done to the organiser/s.

I agreed that there shouldn't be the stupid double registration. I told them I registered online and brought the printout with me but they insisted that I have to fill it out again. I wasn't in the mood to argue so I just fill in half the info and they were happy with that.

I did not have to re-register as they had me in the computer already and printed out my pass. Maybe they had issues the later days...

But the lady at the Explorer Book booth was rather abrupt. The guy in teh next booth, related to the same company, was nice enough to direct me to the proper place though.

The show overall was tastefully done and professionally organized. Not too muchg heavy sales going on so it was nice to see a barrage of information getting passed on to the community. Smile

I too had to double-register. Even though I was in their system, they asked me to fill out another form. This was after they asked me for a business card and I said I did not have one. Go figure...
