Post subject: Expired SIM Card

Hi - I had bought a pre-paid SIM card with China Mobile for family when they were visiting and it has been more than 90 days now that has been used. The message when I tried to use it says it has "stopped working". Does this mean I have to buy another SIM card or will just buying a "top-up" reactivate this "expired" one.

Thanks in advance!

I am pretty sure you will be able to reactivate the card by going to a branch of China Mobile (if that is your provider) along with the original paperwork and identification.

Best way to avoid that happening in the past is to leave a few hundred rmb on the card.

When I was last there, I couldn't be bothered to reacivate my old sim, so I just used another one. If it is a spare sim for visitors, probably easier to get a new one and not deal with retro-activating the old one.

Actually be very careful. I bought a 2nd hand SIM for 11RMB! at baoshan OHR station. filled it with 150 rmb credit then didnt use it. They just cancel the card and all ur credit on it and will not return your credit, the card is useless and cant be reactivated, so they said. Bastads. I think 3 months is the limit.

My friend has same experience

I think that SIM is a gonner as is any credit u had on it.

i used one 8-9 months after the last credit had ran out and there was no problem with the top-up and the card was working within 15 minutes
