Try on Hong mei rd. (close to Yang an rd.). The whole second floor are pearls and so on. It is quite nice! |

Pearl City.

The Hong Mei Lu and Yan An Lu one is still there.
Its a huge building that I think says "hong mei pearl market" or "hong qiao pearl market" on it. The whole second floor is filled with pearl vendors. Quite a lot of foreigners shopping there. The first and third floors have the usual fake goods/purses/watches too. My girlfriend preferred shopping for pearls and purses there instead of the Science&Technology museum market.
Kind of far out if you're in pudong or in the city center, but there are some nice restaurants in the area so you can check those out too if in the area. |

Price of pearls varies a lot depending on size, colour, river or sea pearls, roundness etc. It is really a pain in the butt picking out some nice pearls and then having to bargain down the price. Beware though of fakes, there are a lot. If they are too perfect (ie. perfectly round and without flaws) then they are most likely fake, especially if the price is cheap. |

The nearest subway station is probably Hongqaio Rd (lines 3 or 4) but you will still need a taxi from there. Ask for Hongmei Lu/Yanan Lu. The building is on the corner on the south side. Also, Angel at stall 3005, 288 Fuyou Lu (near Yu Yuan) is popular with expat ladies and will give a fair price. |
