| Post subject: Mixed Race Asian's Experiences? |
I'm mixed something, and in California everyone assumed I was an odd looking mezzo or south American/native American, if it was ever asked or mentioned, in Florida a Cuban, in New York a Puerto Rican, in India a mixed Indian, in Germany- Jewish or Turkish, in Spain a Moroccan. With the exception of Germany where I got my butt kicked by dumb thugs thinking I was Jewish, or a few old people in England on whom David Wlliams must've based his Women's Institute character on, I haven't encountered any problems. No one's been MEAN to me here, but I have had many shopgirls question my eyes being so big, one even going as far as asking where I'd had the surgery done(!!!!) and several glares or refusal to serve me/make eye contact, etc. I know my Chinese American girlfriend encountered many problems when she lived here, I suppose she was far more obvious, and the looks of pity her white husband got from locals. I'm truly not bothered, or else I'd bleach my hair til it crumbled, it's been 90% wonderful, but I AM curious how other mixed race Asians have experienced Shanghai, especially the very obviously mixed ones???? |
