They are illegal, but you can easily get them here... go to the electronics market(s), take a local friend [you'll need one].

^^ wooooord ....

Do you mean a signal jammer? Why would you want it for?? Unless you plan some sort of espionage and kidnapping involving the consular general's son and grand daughter on the 33rd of Oct at 8.54pm ....

but aside from that, I can't see the usage for blocking phone reception ....

OP .... pls enlighten me ....

Thanks for the responses.

Yes, I think I do mean a signal jammer. No, haha I'm not planning anything sneaky. The reason for wanting the jammer is pretty innocent - I have a friend back in the US who can't stand people at the gym on their cell phones, so they've begged me to pick up a jammer for them here.

I went to the electronics market on Huai Hai and asked around, but most people seemed really confused... maybe I wasn't explaining it correctly. I guess I need a jammer that would work for U.S. signals.

If anyone knows where I can find one, please advise! I need it before I take a trip back home in a few weeks.

Spider - Is there an electronics market other than the one on Huai Hai that you'd suggest?

When I've explained to sales people at the market what I'm looking for, I tell them that it's something that stops cell phones within a certain area from working, but no one seems to have heard of something like that. Does anyone know what it would be called in Chinese?

@OP, do you realize that the frequency of cell phones 800/900/1800 for GSM could also be the same frequency of other things like landlines, microwaves, and pacemakers ..... which is why there always are warnings about switching off mobiles and interference from pace makers .... so whilst your friend is at the gym, some poor dude could be having a heart seizure .... just tell them to listen to music or something ....

If you had used it for espionage, then that would be cool .... and allowable! Wink

DHCP - No, I didn't know that! I think that most cell phones in the US are not on GSM.

I still don't have an answer... does anyone know where I can find one??

US GSM systems like AT&T, T-Mobile and various smaller operators run on 1900. List available here: http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_us.shtml

There are also TDMA and CDMA carriers and each would likely need a different jammer.

So your buddy hates assholes that use phones in the gym so he wants to be an ******* and block everyone that may or may not be offending him? seems pretty selfish and petty to me. Tell your buddy to suck it up and deal with the fact that he doesnt own the gym. The gym management should be dealing with it if its really an issue.
