| Post subject: torn airline ticket |
I have a paper ticket from Shanghai to Hong Kong with Shanghai Airlines that got torn in half... I called Shanghai airlines and was told that they cannot reissue the ticket and my only choice is to get a refund for the ticket -- which won't happen for a year! WTF is this?! Is the agent I talked with an idiot or is this really their policy??
I've had tickets reissued in the past by other (more reputable) airlines after losing the ticket, having the ticket destroyed, etc. If I tape the two ticket halfs back together will they accept this at the airport? Anyone have any advice short of buying another ticket? |

probably a good time to go into a SH-airlines office and play "dumb". I would think they should be able to re-issue though i wouldnt blame them if there were a fee involved. Noentheless, you've been here long enough to know that nothing gets done on the phone here...gotta show up in person.
good luck. |

I'm prepared to pay a reasonable fee -- but currently the fee is about 2200 (new ticket!). Airlines are bad enough in general, but chinese airlines take the f*cking cake. |

i've heard of a similar thing happening to someone. they complained and complained and it was taken care of in less time, but it wasn't immediate. sucks. |

^I think that that someone was me. Actually, dfoo, are you sure that you understood them right? I think that you are elegible to get a refund for up to a year. Not that it takes a year to get a refund. Go to the main Shanghai Airlines ticket office on JiangNing Lu just north of Beijing Lu and deal with the people there. They can be quite helpful. They will probably refund the paper ticket you have and reissue another one right then and there.
Shanghai airlines really isn't that bad... At least they have a fleet of new jets (737, 767, 777, and are getting 787's next year) and very nice flight attendants.
GOod luck! |

Thanks for the advice guys.
To bring the story to a close I taped the ticket back together and my wife brought it to the Shanghai airlines office. They took a look at it and said it can be used since everything is legible on the ticket.
There will be hell to pay if there is a problem in the airport. |
