yup. im taking the long term refresher course in Jiao Tong University in Feb. u? studying or working? btw does any of you know where i could rent a 1 bedroom apartment? bugdet 1500rmb-2000? preferrably near the school. : ) |

same here! in fact, i'm the only foreigner in our company...hirap tuloy maki-relate ...especially, when people start speaking in shanghainese. |

living in shanghai is ok...the most difficult thing is the language barrier. i was based in sydney, au for a while, and somehow, it was easier for me there coz everyone speaks english there.
shopping is ok here....but sizes are SMALL!!! shoes for girls, i think the largest they have is an 8...if you're an 8.5 or 9, bring your own shoes.
for clothes, the largest is a size 10....so if you're a size 12 onwards, bring heaps of clothes. as for personal care items, there are lots here...but all the labels are written in chinese. |

i can speak a little mandarin already but will go there to polish it a bit. be learning more in jiaotong uni. i went there last oct and liked it. that's when i decided. |

Language barrier aside, I don't think living here is going to be much of a shock to most Pinoys (particularly if you come from Manila). I have American colleagues who were shocked by the driving, the traffic, the pollution, the crowd, etc. Well, if you come from Manila, all these stuffs just make you feel like home
Shanghai is a very exciting and dynamic place. It's far from perfect, but if you look at the bright side you'll enjoy your stay here.
