Don't they ahat they are called but you can by similar in Carrefour. They are just small onions. Now, if you do find some to pickle (I haven't found malt vinegar yet), I'll bring the cheese and bread. |

sorry. these i'm roasting in balsamic vinegar and a pinch of sugar and thyme and adding to my CRANBERRY sauce. IF i can find out what they're called. i'm also on the lookout for cippolini onions. only found the bigger ones. can't explain well enough that they come in smaller sizes, too.
btw, where are you buying the cheeeese from (cuz carrefour just doesn't do it for me)? if i find some malt vinegar, that is... |

Carrefour has all kinds of cheese. I usually go for the Bega tasty(Australian), wish they would have Caerphilly or Wensleydale sometimes, only 3 more weeks to get my teeth into some of that in the UK, but you should be able to find something to your taste. Happy humting |

cong is the generic term for the onion family.
lu cong is green onion aka scallions.
yang cong is yellow/white onion.
da cong is leek.
and i believe regular cong is what they call red shallots. |

Freshmart, in the basement of City Plaza/Jiu Guang, carries both shallots, and last time I checked, malt vinegar.
City Shop at Shanghai Center/Portman carries shallots, but occasionally tends to understock. |

just found my 1.5kg worth. thank you all. making a big batch. i'm just learning my mandarin. i still get confused w/ writing in pinyin (i can hardly recognise characters yet).
my shanghainese (turned american) neighbor took me around today to find my something-something cong(1) tou(2). and it certainly looks the same! |
