| Post subject: Translated Shanghai Metro Map and Info |
Since UrbanRail.net has done fantastic work to put together some Metro info, I figured it best just to provide this link:
http://www.urbanrail.net/as/shan/shanghai.htm
That site includes current Shanghai Metro Map, a brief history and introduction to the system, as well as future plans for the system.
Enjoy!

Good stuff. But I can't find the link to the future subway construction plans. Is that in that site somewhere? I hear there are another 5 or 6 lines planned for the next 5-10 years. |

Yup, would be useful to have a bus route info as well. I see so many plying the roads but never take them as I have absolutely no idea where they're heading. |

Xinhua bookstores (ex the one near Jingan Temple metro station) sell many excellent maps. The ones with the little numbers and arrows in major streets are bus maps - the number is the bus route number. It is not as clear as a color coded route map IMHO, but with careful study you can figure out where buses go.
Other ways to figure out the buses: 1) get a Chinese friend to call up the mass transit agency to find the buses for the specific places you want to go to/from. 2) trial and error: get on a bus, put 2 yuan in the fare box, find out where it goes. If it goes somewhere remote, just take a taxi to get back to civilization. What did you lose? 2 yuan and the taxi fare. What did you gain? Information.
BTW in my opinion the public buses here are actually pretty nice, most of them are fairly new Volvo models, reasonably comfortable seats and they even have little flat panel TVs to entertain the passengers. |

| Post subject: English language online Shanghai map? |
I want to know if there is any resource online in English that provides a map of Shanghai and where I can type in an address, such as "99 Huai Hai Road" and it will show me exactly where on the map that is (i.e. where is the closest intersection/cross street). Thanks for your help! |

The only interactive online map in English I know of is Smart Shanghai's. While you can locate a decent amount of roads, it doesn't include road numbers and there is also no way to see the name of the streets in Chinese characters.

The other one I know of is Baidu's. While it doesn't have search in English, it does have street number search and has almost all the streets in Shanghai.

There are also some non-interactive maps online, but I've never found those useful so I don't have any URLs for them. |

You might also like to check out http://www.shanghaimap.info/, a new and (soon to be) bilingual online map of Shanghai, which is very detailed and includes all of the new and outlying areas (further parts of Pudong, etc.). |

Line 3 and 4 have same tracks (where overlapping) so you can just get out and wait for the other line to come |

Is line four finished? Can you get from Xuhui to Pudong along the counterclockwise route? |

I believe not. They had a cave-in a couple of years ago in that bit while building it, so the rest opened long before the southern river crossing will be finished. |

I'm a big fan of this map.
http://www.exploreshanghai.com/metro/
It has english and chinese, plus if you click and drag from one station to another it shows you the route, the fare, and an estimated time. |

Wow..... Wow.... Wow.... Finally it arrived! UUMAP has updated their map and it is great! new link is
http://shanghai.uumap.com/#
You can type the street name (in English on the area where the magnifying glass is) and it'll located it on the map. Well the major roads at least, haven't try all the roads yet. |

They have done quite a bit of update. I can zoom all the way in and still have the street names. I can also type the street name in pingyin and they will mark it on the map..... hugh improvement and great help for me.... especially when people just rattle out a name and expect you to know which district it belongs to.... |
