I think the best way is tio have a Shanghai Lady for your girlfriend. Live with her for a few months. You will speak Shanghainese like a Shanghaier. |

Hi, I did tried. However, am still lost in what my colleagues are speaking...sigh. I think should be that I am too slow to learn it.
Thus I think taking lessons or getting someone to teach me will be a better choice. |

Hi man, just forget about Shanghainese coz Chinese mandarin should come first after all. Even for the Chinese, Shanghai dialect is still hard and meaningless to learn to be frank.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to learn Shanghai dialect? I think that would be a waste of time. Even Chinese don't want to learn it. You know, there are at least hundreds of dialects in China. But almost every one speaks Mandarin in big cities. |

Shanghai dialect is not easy to learn - not only to the foreigners, but also to the people from other provinces! However young Shanghainess speak "modern" Shanghai dialect, which is a bit different from the "standard" one and more close to mandarian.
I don't believe there is any "professional" institute teaching it. Even hard to find a good textbook. Make some friends, practice in daily life, watch some boring TV show... Interest could help you to learn easily! |
