| Post subject: Best Gift for New Born |
My sister gave birth to a baby girl back in the States what gift do you think would be good to give the baby girl that would be memorable 16/18 years down the road when she is older. I gave my sisters first baby girl a ring with their birth stone. Now that in China was thinking of if there is anything else (around $250 Dollars)better I can get here in China......

If you are serious about the 18-20 years down the road having some value then buy here an investment of some sort. Baring bonds, pure gold, 10 shares of microsoft, a few China index funds etc.... U.S. savings bonds? |

If you want something similar to the birthstone rings but with a Chinese flavour to it, then you could consider a pendant with the Chinese zodiac. If you get gold, it will somewhat retain its value and it will also be a keepsake. |

The very best new born gift. something they will keep their whole life is a baby gift from Tiffany's. You can go online and order. You can get a cup or a bowl or a spoon. Your sister will talk about the great gift her brother gave her from Tiffany's |

chinese traditional gift for a new born is one or a pair of little gold bracelet with a pretty gold bell. Not all the time the baby will wear it but it's really lovely. and 20 years later, gold won't depreciate. |

baby stuff can be found at the baby/childrens markets. On at PuAn Rd near Huang Pi Rd and Yan An, another at WuYi Rd at Zhong Shan West Rd. Both are same mall operator and are both underground. |

Best to buy gold anklet/bracelet like the other poster mentioned. A few days ago, I checked in the goldsmith store like Chow Tai Fook, cost is about RMB1,500 - RMB1,800, so it is in your budget. Get the 24k gold and retain the fa-piao which has the exact weight of the item (give the recepient the fa-piao as well). This is Chinese tradition especially for babies in the family. A keepsake for life and can be passed down to the next generation |

an engraved sterling rattle from tiffany's is lovely, i've given it several times along with an outfit. not terribly practical, but something that will remain with the keepsakes for years. plus, you can order online and have it shipped with ease. |
