| Post subject: China Eastern Airlines vs DragonAir |
hi guys/gals...
never experienced flying with China Eastern , Shanghai Air or Dragon Air.
Planning a HK-Shanghai return flight in jan....
China Eastern Airlines = HKD3302 for 2 pax
Shanghai Airlines = HKD3952 for 2 pax
Dragon Airlines = HKD5270 for 2 pax
Is the extra HKD2000 worth the difference for a 2 hour flight?
thanks ppl! |

If you don't mind being cramped up for 2 hrs, then China Eastern is fine. I've only flown on CE once from Hongqiao to Qingdao on an Airbus 320 and it felt like we were packed in like sardines. Not sure what they use for the Shanghai-HK trip.
Shanghai Airlines could be a good compromise. Flew it once from HK to Shanghai on a Boeing 767 and the seats were somewhat comfortable. Only bad thing I can say about Shanghai Airlines was that there was a lingering smell of a pickled vegetable they served from the flight before ours...and it stank pretty bad. On the upside, if you're a member of the Star Alliance you can start earning miles from Shanghai Airlines in December, though I'm not sure on the exact date.
But none of the other two compare to DragonAir. Their food is so much better, and the experience is more pleasant. I think they use Airbus 330s to fly between Shanghai and Hong Kong...maybe that's why it felt a little more roomy. |

It's 2 hours. With that price differential, I'd go for China Eastern which isn't all that bad. Long haul to London is a different matter. |

IMHO out of 5 stars (in terms of food, service, and comfort; excluding the rough landing ):
Air China - 1 star (i'll include FYR)
China Eastern - 2 stars
Shanghai Airlines - 1 star
Dragon Air (Cathay Pacific) - 4 stars
Is it worth the price difference? Depends on your tolerance level (and spending power .)
personally, for that short trip, as long as the plane lands safely, its fine. |

I flly noth reqularly, and Dragon Air is by far the superior airline.
But for 2,000rmb for a 2 hour flight...I usually fly MU |
