Post subject: Where's the logic??

So, i have a Bank of China credit card, dual currency, USD and RMB. The USD limit is apparently the highest "they can give a foreigner" at 2500 USD. It's all for my work travel.

30th of October, i head into BOC, and ask them what the balance is and pay the lot. I had a statement, and the outstanding was a little bit above the statement amount due to interest. Paid it all off, zero outstanding.

Mid November, i get a statement, outstanding 100 USD for pre booking accomodation. But in mid November, i also travelled to Singapore and used the card for accomodation.

Yesterday, i head into the Bank, because today i am off to the US and need zero balance so i can pay for hotels. Ask them how much is outstanding. 1100USD. No probs, here you go, here is RMB, pay the USD off for me. "no, you can't". "your a foreigner" she deduced. So, apparently in China, i am not able to pay my credit card off unless it is the same amount or less than on the statement, or it is less than 500USD (Foreigner daily change limit). She advised me i could do 500 at that branch, and then go another branch and pay another 500 off.

So despite me begging her to let me give her bank money, no good.

What a **** rediculous stupid system this is.

Yeah, the foreign currency controls are absurd. It will have to change in future.

Maybe BOC has a similar system: ICBC has a system where the charge card can get paid off directly from your savings account, automatically - the credit card and savings account are linked - so as long as you have enough funds in the savings account, your credit card will be paid off in full at the end of the billing cycle.

Let's be very clear here: this type of credit account, that you need to recharge manually, is supremely moronic. Its a retarded anglosaxon concept. Add Chinese logic to that, that's what you get. What Coffeeoftheday described is how credit works in the civilized world.

sometimes I think Yogi Berra must be Chinese. His logic is very much like Chinese

That made my day. I thought Yogi Berra was some Starwars characters, you know the kind you meet at that bar. A bit like some people I met in Bangkok, now that I think of it. But I wasnt sure, so I googled and found a quotes page. Good stuff.

The guy is definitely Chinese. Or at least he should get honorary citizenship, the Magnolia award or something.

On a recent trip, to Beijine as soon as we got to hotel , my GF said lets do IT Now. I said really, she said let's do it. So since I am always trying to please. We did IT. When we got finished, she got up and crossed sex off her list of things to do. She said ok now we have to see the Great Wall, etc. etc. but sex was checked off her list of things to do for the rest of the vacation.

I ask all you guys "Where's The Logic"

You'd think it would be so easy wouldn't you?

I also have an ICBC credit card, and my salary gets paid into an ICBC account. However, HR decided that they would basically make a name up for me on my salary account, so i can't link the two.

This has nothing to do with credit cards this is simply the 500 USD limit per day which is already better than before when you couldn't change any RMB to USD unless you had a receipt showing you had previously changed from USD to RMB or lots of employment and salary proof of income earned in RMB.

Its all got to do with the strict foreign currency regulations in place. In time, this should ease off. In the meantime, we need to put up with these inconveniences.

Aaarg! This reminds me of when I had to change a bunch of money over and had to run from branch to branch and hope they were too lazy to check that I had already changed money. It actually worked. ONly about 30% of the time did they really check and so I was able to change far more money than "legal". -and now I know where every BOC in Shanghai is...
