I'm using the english client with no problems at the moment. And lately, I've noticed that the Chinese servers are upgrading much faster after their US release.

Majiren, I think you just need to upgrade the english version to the current version (1.81, I believe). if you don't have a US subscription, you can get the upgrade/patch files from searching online or a site such as filefront.com.

Also, I meant using thottbot as an online reference for the quests and such. It probably won't be any use to add the thottbot files to your game because, like you said, it is meant for US and Europe.

DEAR ALL!!!!

This might interest you. READ CAREFULLY!
I live in Shanghai for some time now and had played WoW on EU servers with a EU version during this time. I decided to run WoW on a chinese server, yet it sucked, the game being 100% chinese.
I therefore got my hands on a full US version of the game as well and started to "mod" it (like back in the days with starcraft / warcraft).
I now have a 100% working english version of the game that will connect to te chinese servers, ALL is in english, 100% bug free, yet chinese players names are displayed in chinese if they use a chinese name and when the write in chinese you may also read that.
Basically it is a fully english version, connecting to chinese servers and made compatible with chinese typeset. AND IT WORKS.

I found that the way i did it (WITHOUT tampering the registry and so on), allows me perfectly to patch EVERY single version of the game when a new patch is out, without any problems AT ALL!

The only thing i am not able to do "yet", is to TYPE with chinese characters myself, and in the realmlist, the realms don't show up with theyr chinese names. those are the only 2 things (which i am fixing right now, thus is found this page. Smile

Please contact me if you need any help, advice, or wish to have some sessions together....

When I log in wow on Euro Servers with my 1mbit China Telecom ADSL i get 1500-4000 ping.
I ended playing WoW when I came here, altho I was 4th person to 40 on server. And with 3 levels 60. Horde.
My friend who is visiting atm managed to kill entire MC and Ragnaros, first 2 bosses in BWL with my 1500-400ping.
But, in the long run its just to frustrating. And PvP is out of the question.

But if you say, you guys starting to play on China servers, and its possible to play with english text that would be kickass.
You guys got a guild set up and stuff? Would be fun.

Currently spending some time in Guild Wars, so if you got a guild there..

Please send me a mail or catch me on MSN or Skype

Post subject: Typing in Chinese

Does anyone know how to type Chinese in the Chinese WoW? I have XP Pro and all of the IME's installed but still am not sure how to work it. I have been playing for awhile now from the US on the Chinese servers but I feel I am branded as a noob because I don't speak in Chinese. And then a lot of them turn on roll hacks and I only get stuff in instances if I beg. It ticks me off, but at the same time I realize that a lot of US players treat those who don't have fluent english very poorly. Anyways, does anyone know of a program or setting where you can type chinese on through the Chinese game client with an English version of XP Pro?
Thanks

Post subject: World of Warcraft - consolidated thread

Hey,

Anyone here playing? I want to start playing WoW again, last time I played was just after christmas when the earthquake **** the cable in Taiwan, that destroyed the ping so I quit and never got back to it.

I played on EU servers then, which would give me 300-400 ping. However, during daytime/online-peak hours here in China it would be impossible to play..! Playing at acceptable MS was only during the night hours.

Anyone who has played from China on the US servers? What's your ping like?

Thinking of buying american WoW and start playing US instead, if that would give me better ping..

Aren't there a bunch of chinese servers?

This might be a start if thats a route you want to take.

I actually downloaded WoW and Burning Crusades to see what all the fuss was about, but haven't installed yet. Work takes precedence haha

Lawrence.

I stopped WoW after 6 months from retail when it came out in the US.

I got an email about a trial for burning crusades while I was in SH last month, I tried it just for kicks, it wasn't too bad and the ping was decent on SH DSL, but I've got 2 jobs and a relationship to work on.

60 Rogue, Troll on US Server, epics blues and rare purple gear, 500+ gold, mount, its an old account, was converted from beta so you got the bird that sits on your shoulder, still have the original boxes and account info, I have no use for it, give it to ya cheap. lmk if your interested.

Epic is purple and rare is blue, but that s not important^^ with bc, you'll quickly replace your epic stuff with some green one, a lot better^^

I am playing on french server (drood 70, priest 68,...), I tried to connect with my wireless connection but no way, 4000ping, disconnected after 10 seconds...now I will try to find a good cyber cafe to play sometimes, if you know one let me know, as I heard that the most are awful !

Has anybody played on european/US server from a cyber cafe here in Shanghai?

I found one who looked pretty good, but couldn't connect to my account (chinese message saying that the username and password are not correct). I checked from my laptop, my password works, so that's not the problem. DO you know what to do ?

The Chinese versions and the US/European version use different patch levels. Read the link I posted above.

I have been playing on the Chinese Servers with a US client. you just have to make sure you turn off the auto patcher since as lawrence says the patch levels are different. You can't use the cyber cafes because they use the chinese clients that connect to chinese servers.

Accounts on chinese servers and western servers are not linked. so I had to get a friend to create a chinese account and a lot of setup but its very playable since all the quests and items are localised.

You have to turn off the trade channels since its all in chinese anyway and you'll quickly get tired of the spam for items in chinese which you can't really translate to english anyway, how do you say "Astraanar" ? Very Happy.

Anyways the site above is a good place to start and we have a group of english players on the server 玛多兰 if anyone is interested

WHAT? I heard that you can play WoW from China, on US servers. My friends went there on business trips and they have WoW installed on their laptops and it was fine, ping was around 300ms though.

Another friend lives in SH and he gets the GREEN BAR (w00t!)

Please will someone who plays WoW on US servers from China please confirm this. I'm going to delay my move back to Shanghai until it's confirmed =P

Also, on average, how bad is lag (ping?)
Disconnectivity?

I don't plan on switching to UK/China servers. I'm in an awesome Guild that raids all day.

I've been playing WoW on a US server for some time now, never noticed that big of a latency problem (except for the above mentioned earthquake). Usually get around 300-400 latency (green to yellow bar), and I've been playing on a West Coast server. So yep, as long as you have a US account and are up to date on patches (which you should be automatically), I don't foresee you having any troubles. Enjoy!

I'm playing on Rexxar and Illidan.

Anyone on these? I've got a shadow priest on one and a Mage in the other.

Being currently in the states I don't have a pin problem, usually I play at 76ms *MUHAAHHAAHHAHA!* but that may change shortly as I head back to SH.

At 400ms, you operate just fine in groups and dungeons as well?

you can get pre paid game cards at any small magazine shop on the side of the road for 30rmb or so. I never played in China, but I used to play in US. In China it is great, you can trade the cards for 300gold or something, never have to farm.....

Well, picked up a pre-paid card and scratched off the strip but the string of numbers is short by about 4. There is however a scratch off grid at the bottom with a bunch of numbers...this is probably where you make up the last set of numbers but unfortunately I can't read the instructions. haha Anyone have experience with this? Thanks

Cards bought in China won't work for USA servers.

The grid is a matrix system used here to protect account passwords...as so many play the game in net bars.
