| Post subject: Do u all believe in fate? |
I know this topic has been discussed over and over again. But so far alot of ppl believe in this. I have some qns though.
What is fate? i notice that ppl treat fate like how they treat god. Same theory. Everything gd that happens, ppl will exclaim "praise the lord". anything bad that happens, ppl will say it's the work of satan, or this is the obstacle that god wants us to overcome. It's a very mental kind of thing to me. It becomes what u think of it. Juz like when 2 right ppl meet, they will say it's fate, becoz it's a gd thing. When 2 wrong ppl meet, no matter how many times they crash and meet and turn, they will say it is only by chance or coincidental.
When i ask my frens, esp girls why they started out with their guys, they will say is fate. To me, ppl come in and out of ur life every second. Is it really the work of unknown supernatural powers or is it juz merely the work of coincidence and simple probability?
Are we sure of what is happening around us or are we deluding ourselves |

Successful person will say its because of hardwork.
Unsuccessful person will say its my fate that I end up like this.
Not yet successful person will say my fate is not here yet. |

if you happen to know that you are "fated" next year to become rich would you just sit and do nothing and just wait for it to come?
what if it is fated that you will die instead? what will you do?
i dont rely on fate. i rather work hard and be succesful and tell everyone that i did it myself than saying it is fate that made me succesful. |

I don't think the OP meant fate in a financial sense.
The 1st time at meet the future Mrs. cantcheckemailnopw #1, was at a dance
club in San Francisco. We did not exchange phone numbers. A month later
while on vacation in San Diego we literally bumped into each other on a
sidewalk. Was it fate or just a small world after all. I do know, it gave us
something to talk about, which lead to dinner that night and eventually
marriage.
In sports I always liked the saying 'The more I practice, the luckier I get' |

we are little people in little boats floating down a huge, swirling, raging river full of rocks and other obstacles. it is so big, most events in the river appear to be random, except the few you can control yourself.
we are all little people driven by fear and curiosity.
we make up our own solutions to explain the unexplainable. different people call them by different names. |

sometimes out boats leak water, sometimes they sink
sometimes people try to jump into our boat, sometimes we try to jump into thiers
sometimes people with big boats run over people with little boats
sometimes you hit a penguin, and then you feel very, very bad. |

To believe in fate, you first have to believe in time, or at least, believe in our understanding of time. Maybe Coffeehawk's metaphor holds some deeper meanings? The river is time, it's singular...it's one thing. Future and past are in reality illusions. When we are on the banks of the river, we are observing time. We look up stream and see the future rushing towards us, we look down stream and the past disappearing over the horizon. It is simply a matter of perspective. Let's change our perspective, strip down to our undies and feel ourselves slipping into the river, into time. Once in the river, we are swept along and we soon realize that future and past don't exist. They are ideas. For a moment forget about the world around us, there is only the river and we are flowing with it, are we moving? without the banks of the river as perspective we are not moving. The water behind us is always behind us. The water in front, always in front. It is one thing and we are now part of it.
Fate, is that feeling of being swept along with the river, future and past disappearing, and us (on some level) realizing: what is, always was, and will be.
the end.

"Fate" should not be an excuse for failing to achieve something.
However (and this is for those who do not believe in fate), did any of those who have died in plane crashes have control over their final destinies? Sometimes boats (and planes) sink. |

Umm, no. Floating has to do with the amount of water displaced, not the material the hull is made from. Ferro-cement and steel boats float fine, thank you very much. |

this is a philosophical thread. silver looks great when polished, but tarnishes to an ugly black when exposed to the sulfer in salt water. You'll also notice that all the great whaling boats in history have been wooden. |

and the pirates walked with wooden legs on wooden boats,
their silver was kept in wooden chests and woolen coats.
