Post subject: PLEASE HELP!!!! BNO passport holder, entry into china?

I bought my girlfriend a ticket to visit me from Canada where she is studying. She is a HK resident with a BNO passport.

She arrived yesterday but she thought she didnt' need a visa, but then they wouldn't let her in. She flew to HK to get a visa, and now they are saying it takes 5 days to get it. She says there is another option she can take to arrive in shanghai tomorrow, but the cost will be 1500CND. Doesn't make any sense to me, does anyone know what she is talking about?

Anyway she doesn't have a mobile on her and it'll be a few hours before I can talk to her, so in the meantime if anyone can help me try to understand the situation better, could you help? I can't believe the 1500CND thing, and I don't even know the name of that "visa" so it's hard to look up info on it. I asked her all the options but she was crying and kind of hysterical so I couldn't get any info.

Thanks

Ok..well I talked to her again, she says she paid 1000CDN to get a visa so she can arrive on dec25th...

i've been looking at visa sites like China Travel Service and it is only like 500HKD for a same day visa. She says they told her she is a special case because she doesn't have HK/China passport and is not a Canadian or british citizen...really i don't understand it and then she got mad because I was mad at her for paying so much without checking the CTS link I sent her first. Anyways....anyone ever heard of something like this?

Its done now, but out of curiousity its killing me. I went through a www.geoexpat.com HK forum about VISA issues, in a years worth of threads I didn't see anyone have problems like this.

A BNO passport is not like a real passport. I know a few people in HK with BNO passports, and the even need a visa for the UK.

Yup.

I'm assuming that the guy's talking about a person who is Chinese and from Hong Kong. If so, then she's really just a Chinese citizen with a useless passport. That she'd even attempt to enter the Mainland on a BNO passport is beyond belief.

This is the second person I've heard of recently who got on a plane without a visa. I thought they were supposed to check for that ?

They should have checked. Maybe they just assumed she was Chinese because, well, .... she is.

I guess she didn't think of applying for the homecoming document. To be honest, she thought she didn't need a visa. SHe said she has been to Shanghai once before on her BNO passport and they allowed it, however I think she may have just been passing through the airport.

Anyway she was kind of hysterical that she couldn't get in and felt very bad, so I didn't bring it up anymore to find out exactly what happened.

You guys have no idea what you are talking about.

BNO Passports CAN get a regular travel visa to China through oversea missions directly (not China Travel LTD).

If you ask China Travel Ltd, their standard answer is to pay extra money to get Chinese Special Travel Permit for Chinese Citizens. This is how they make their money! Laughing

For those think BNO is an useless passport, you have no idea what BNO is.

And YES, your GF is being ripped-off big time! Typical mainland Chinese style to foreigners (including Hong Kong citizens)[/img].

A BNO passport is about as useful as a chocolate fireman. A good friend of mine (british guy) is married to a HK lady for some 16 years now. They have two kids. 4 years ago they wanted to move to the UK. You should have seen the sh1tfight she had to go through to get a UK resident visa.

If she simply got the return home permit (assuming she was eligible in the first place), she wouldn't have even needed a BNO passport much less a visa.

To get a visa with her useless BNO passport, she'd have had to go to the PRC visa office in Wanchai and apply for one.

britishhongkong.com wrote:

BNO is useless and issued to current and / or former colonists who continue to be treated like second-class citizens. Only recently did they even waive visas to enter the UK for BNO passport holders while to this day are still legally treated as third-class "citizens" of their own "country."

Over 1/2 of HK BNO passport holders have actually given up their useless BNO passport in favor of their SAR passport because a HK SAR passport offers many more travel benefits than a BNO passport. For example, a HK SAR passport holder has visa-free access to approximately 130+ countries compared to a dismal 88 with a BNO passport. Even many countries of those 88 place tighter conditions on those entering with a BNO passport than with a HK SAR passport.

Oh, did I mention that a BNO passport is a royal pain in the a$$ to renew and is three times more expensive that a HK SAR passport? Wink

The only people who got ripped off were morons like you who spent hours upon end in line to apply for a BNO just before the handover.

And which passport do YOU have? China Mainland Passport with 18 visa-free access? or Hong Kong 2nd-class Chinese citizen (so called SAR) with no ROA in Mainland China? Wink

Before you comparing BNOs to the UK, do the same to SARs to China. Laughing

Bzzzt. Wrong answer, moron. Take your kewpie doll, hop on your bicycle and slither back to your trailer park.

I suppose people from your planet start the drivel machine after being made to look like a complete phuk-up in a feeble attempt to hide their stupidity.

The issue isn't what passport I have although it is neither a PRC or a HK SAR passport.

The issue is that you made claims that either show you to be a liar or too mentally incompetent to form an opinion on the most basic of matters such as your own passport.

The issue is that a HK SAR passport is much, much more valuable that some piece of crap BNO passport.

Oh, and if a HK SAR passport holder is a second-class Chinese citizen, then a Chinese BNO passport holder is the fouth-class coolie of that so-called second-class citizen. As a BNO passport holder, you are similar in function to the cleaner wrasse that rides alongside leaching from bigger fish. The taste of scum and excrement probably excites your taste buds. Wink

You don't have BNO nor SAR, what are you doing here? How much do you know about these 2 passports?

Do you know the fact that BNO passport has MORE VISA-FREE accesses than to SAR passport? BNO 135 vs SAR 131

And more importantly, soon or later BNO passports are to become EU/EEA status so who really want a SAR Passport that can't even travel to it's own country Mainland China?

Next time you reply, show me what you know about BNO/SAR status, stopping yelling like a brainwashed mainlander. Don't tell me that you need to suck dicks for the commies in order to extend your stay??? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

To me, you are tenth-class in Mainland China, Mr. F-VISA. Laughing

Bzzzt. Wrong answer again. Put the dunce cap back on.

According to the British Home Office, BNO passport holders have visa-free access to 88 countries. Of those 88, the stay restrictions are more onerous than those placed on HK SAR passport holders.

But then what would you know of the Home Office. They probablyhave to anal probe BNO passport coolies before they even let them through the door. Bet that thrills you, no? Wink

Literacy not your forte, right? Shall I post in Chinese so you stand a chance at actually understanding WTF is said here? Nobody is talking about your theoretic sooner or later. Too stupid to do a forum search or the actual number of keys to press to perform one is beyond your mathematical ability? Actually, the type of visa I have is much better than having either a crappy BNO passport or a return home permit. Wink

Obviously you know nothing of passports much less Chinese visas. Try sticking to something a retard like you can hope to master: precisely pouring milk onto a bowl of cold cereal.

hahahaha...I guess you are a real idiot...

VISA-FREE to EU means nothing to BNOs as we also have the same
privileges as SARs

I'm gonna copy/paste again, open your eyes moron!
BNO passports are to become EU/EEA status. It means BNO passport will be an EU passport YOU STUPID. hahahahahaaa Laughing

It means BNO holders will have right to live/work/study as an EU citizen within EU/EEA areas. SO DO YOU UNDERSTAND ENGLISH NOW YOU IDIOT? Laughing Laughing

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------
Now let's talk about the VISA-FREE access between BNO/SAR. Don't you know you are living in a country with full of lies??? lol...

The counting method between UK Government and China HKSAR Government are totally different.

For example, France is ONE country according to UK; BUT, China HKSAR GOV separates France by adding it's territories to VISA-FREE list ONE-BY-ONE.

Guadeloupe, Guyane, Martinique, La Réunion and the territory of Mayotte, the territory of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, French Polynesia, the territory of the Wallis and Futuna islands as well as French southern Hemisphere and Antarctic lands.

I guess you have limited access to internet (blocked by China Gov.), I don't blame your information being outdated... Laughing Laughing Laughing

No, the Home Office specifically states BNO passports do not qualify for the same status as EU passport. You can only have visa-free access -- which HK SAR passport holders have had for a while now.

Try to suck off someone guarding the door at the Home Office so they'll let you in and learn to separate your fantasy from fact.

Is it always difficult for people from your planet to write in English? Or did your 2-year old sister write this for you?

BNO passports are to become EU/EEA status. It means BNO passport will be an EU passport YOU STUPID. hahahahahaaa Laughing

No, the Home Office specifically states BNO passports do not qualify for the same status as EU passport. You can only have visa-free access -- which HK SAR passport holders have had for a while now.
