How about the original Wizard of OZ with Judy Garland?

Also.. Little Big Man with Dustin Hoffman was memorable to me.

Well, since we haven't defined old, and I have a few minutes before I go to sleep I am also going to recommend:

- Boondock Saints

Awesome movie. Smile

And it falls into the category of "old" in that it's not "new".

Sergio Leone's Once Upon A Time in America. Just watched it last night. Absolute masterpiece - De Niro most understated and underrated performance.

So many of the movies mentioned were actually even better books.

just a couple examples:

To kill a mockingbird
Clockwork Orange

two movies which *are* great movies, but you REALLY should read the book, too. As with any movie adaptation, they just can't fit all of the great details into the movie. And the greatness of the movie comes at least partially just from the book.

movies which were just made to be movies (original screenplays) belong in their own category.

a classic movie which should be watched (for the irony, but still):

Reefer Madness (a farcical 1930's propoganda movie about the horrible evils of marijuana)

a little preview:

I searched my butt off for old movies, mainly Christmas classics, but found nothing.

Frustrating.

Only saw this one fairly recently.

A lot of Shanghainese girls told me this was their favorite movie. A lot of things made sense after I saw the movie.

Can't think of too many offhand that haven't already been mentioned. Though one of my fav classics - Tokyo Monogatari, aka Tokyo Story, by Ozu. Though made in the 50s, still relevant today.

It does seem like a lot of office girls in Shanghai (whether from Shanghai or not) love Audrey Hepburn. Her image was a very popular screen saver (at least until Wentworth Miller came along).
