Post subject: Censoring of the word 's-l-o-p-e-s'

How about the moderators remove the idiotic auto-censor on the word 's-l-o-p-e-s'?

I suggested this twice already in different threads, including the recent thread on suggestions for improving the site.

Here is a thread demonstrating the stupidity of this auto-censoring.

http://www.shanghaiexpat.com/index.php?name=MDForum&file=viewtopic&p=7 83793#783793

There have been other similarly innocent threads.

I'd have thought the majority of uses of the word were innocent. A slope is a fundamental concept that occasionally needs to be discussed. Auto-censoring this word is RIDICULOUS.

I'd really love to know who thought this was a good idea in the first place. I won't ask though.

It seems like I've been ignored so far in asking for this stupidity to be stopped. I'll ask one more time.

Can somebody please fix it up?

Excuse my ignorance but, aside from an inclined plane, what is a s-l-o-p-e?

No ignorance at all from your side. I didn't get it either.

Found it -

Offensive Slang. Used as a disparaging term for a person of East Asian birth or descent.

That's a new one for me.

Grab a copy of the Sand Pebbles. Not a bad movie, actually. Short for slopeheads, iirc. Term probably fits several of the new crop of posters. Does one have to fail an iq test to get a job in shanghai nowadays ?

I think it's an Aussie term for Chinese people. Derrogatory of course.

Christopher Walken uses it in "Pulp Fiction" - "He'd be damned if any slopes were gonna put their greasy yellow hands on his boy's birthright." - and it crops up in the Do Lung Bridge scene in "Apocalypse Now" - "Got slopes on the wire, man." It's a disparaging term for Far-Eastern Asians in general and Vietnamese in particular. "Slope" is a synonym for "slant" and it's a reference to the shape of Oriental eyes.
