Post subject: need help with my son's DS

Hi, we gave one Nintendo DS to our son, bought in a shopping mall in Pudong. Everything is fine with it, but how I put the games inside it????
The girl in the shopping told me that we can't buy "real" games for DS here, so she sold me a pack with 1000 games, 10 cds. I got a DS fire link with 1G memory so we would able to download around 30 games each time.
I can put the games in my computer, copy them to a new folder, but when I plug the memory card/flash card in the computer, nothing happens...
I was thinking in going to the shop and ask her to show me how to do it, but first I will here, cause I allways get some good asnwers from the experts here!
thanks for any help! my son is killing me!!!!!

You've possibly been sold a dud memory card, either that or you need to find a different way of plugging it into your computer. For example, I got a fake PSP memory card and when I plug it in through my PSP to my computer it works fine, when I plug it in through the official PSP memory card adaptor it doesn't work I assume because it's a fake.

I just tried a google search, I dunno if this helps you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTrGncQIzjo

Also, maybe you could try buying a different type of card for your DS. I have a micro SD supercard lite, which is a cartridge you plug into the GBA slot and then you put a micro SD card into the cartridge after you've uploaded games onto the micro SD. When using this one you normally have to convert the format of the games with the supercard lite software that you can either download or use the CD that should come with your supercard lite. Also you can try the R4 which is meant to be a lot better and is a lot more popular, this one works like the supercard lite whereby you put a micro SD in but you put the cartridge in the NDS slot and it's a lot nicer to use. Good luck!

DS Firecard? Nooooooo!

I got one before and it's rubbish. I tore my hair out for weeks trying to get my DS Firecard to work, but a quick test I found on the internet confirmed that my DS Firecard was, in fact, a piece of crap.

You never know though, yours might be a rare unit that actually works.

Theoretically, you need to do this to use your Firecard.
You need to plug in every part of the Firecard into your DS (into the slot on the top AND on the bottom) and plug the lead thingy into your computer. When you turn on the DS, a menu should come up, with two buttons "Menu" and "USB" if memory serves. Tap "USB". Then your DS will show up on your computer. Just drag the ROMs into the DS.

Once you've done this, you can disconnect the bottom part of your Firecard from your computer, and play your games.

I replaced my Firecard with an R4. It was a little more expensive, but the main advantage was that it worked. The Firecard wouldn't boot up 90% of the time, and couldn't save.

^Read this before buying a DS Firelink/Firecard!

I second getting an R4.

An alternative method is to buy a SD card reader, and copy the files over using that.
(1) Take SD card out of Firecard.
(2) Plug into SD Card Reader
(3) Plug SD Card Reader into computer, it should pop up as a new drive
(4) Copy the files over to the ROMS directory (or something similarly named - its been a while, and I don't remember exactly!)
(5) Eject the SD Card Reader (bottom right in windows)
(6) Plug SD card back into DS.

ok, if I go to any computer shop and ask for R4, will they know what it is?? ot ir has a chinese name?
yes, maybe the card is just a piece of crap Sad who knows...
So, I think this is the problem Maxiewawa, thanks!
what I did: DS has a small card in the backs, slot 1, which came with 3 games and I could download more 13, but I wasn't able to. I plug the bigger fire link card on front, slot 2, plug in the USB cable and plug the USB in my PC.
I put the cd with games in my computer, saved (wasn't able to open anyone).
but when I plug the USB nothing happened, so probably the computer didn't recognize the card.
First, I will go to the shop and ask the girl to show me how it works, with my fire link, second I will buy the R4!

thanks guys!

The R4 card has worked quite well for me as well.
One tip- When setting up the R4 card you have to copy a couple of files to your SD card to "install the system". I downloaded the English version from the R4 website but the DS would give me an error message when I turned it on. When I went to the Chinese section of the website there was a FAQ which explained that the language of the "system" must match the firmware versions. In other words since the card is the Chinese version, I had to use the Chinese system files as well. This may seem like common sense but I fiddled with the DS for an hour or so before I figured this out.

Also I think only the DS games work on the R4 card. At least I haven't been able to get and of the Gameboy (.gba) files to work.

Oh that's right, don't forget to get the place to install the drivers onto the SD card. You'll need them.

Anyone that sells DS machines will know the R4.

I just bought the R4 and now is working Smile
the saler try to sale me all the 1000 cds package game (I already had it), then I asked him to put it in the fire card (his games, his fire card), didn't work either.
and he was looking at me with a big ???? over his head, hehe.
Then I asked for the R4, another guy who could speak a bit of english came and helped me, they showed me how to put the games inside the microSD, and it's really easier now.
the only problem now is that I have 10cds, 1000 games, everything in chinese, and I need to try one by one to see which one is good! at least I know how to read Super Mario and soccer for my son!
thanks guys!
