I have a friend who told me that the cost of producing a casting mold in his country is even more than the selling price of the same mold in China. And guess what, the quality of the mold is higher. And you would expect that he decides to just close down his factory and does sourcing in China - more profits and less the hassle of running a factory in his home country with alll the labour problems.

Would work like this

Price of the apartment 800 000 Rmb
Brides parents savings -300 000 Rmb
Grooms parents savings -150 000 Rmb
Couples own savings -50 000 Rmb
To be financed with mortgage 300 000 Rmb
Tenure 25 years.
Monthly repayment including interest would be less than 1800 Rmb (with current interest rates)

Though in Shanghai its usually the grooms family who may take the bruden

I honestly cannot imagine how anyone could be miserable making $60,000 us dollar/year + $1000/house perks/month in Shanghai. For some of us, thats an insane amount of money. If you are miserable, making more money is not going to help.

Uh, yeah. Where is your friend from - Taiwan ? Because I've got several friends in the US running molding operations. They have some interesting tales to tell about Chinese molds. I myself worked in a mold shop near here for two years. I also have some interesting tales. If your friend is serious, make sure he doesn't give you any presents. You're liable to get a sow's ear.

Totally agree with "just be happy." Big money. My wife and I live on about RMB 4000/month, and very happy. We do own our house,(apartment).

LOL! I've lived in expensive cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Paris and London... and I know that USD$60,000 will give you a good lifestyle anywhere.

If you think you will have a good lifestyle in NYC or Tokyo on $60k, you have either low expectations or a warped sense of the adjective good.

$60k in NYC means you eat at shelters. Maybe that's good for you.

It is ridiculous to assert that $60,000/Year is not enough to live in NYC. Even some of the most prestigious entry level jobs pay near that amount. For example, in 2003, when I was an investment banking analyst at a large investment bank in NYC, I was paid $1,060/week. Of course, at the end of the year you receive a bonus, however, depending on the bank's performance, this bonus can be as little as $10,000.
The vast majority of people in entry level jobs, even graduates from the most prestigious colleges, make closer to $40,000/year. Underwater, I call bullfeces.

You might not be able to go to the best clubs in NYC every weekend, but 60,000/ year is plenty in NYC or Shanghai. Underwater, Maybe you are trying to inflate your own importance by pretending that 60,000/year is a paltry sum, but I don't think the OP was interested in whether you think 60,000/year is a lot of money.

Back to the OP's question.... if you have to ask, then YES, $60k will give you a miserable life in Shanghai.... and everywhere else in the world! If you read some of the comments on this website, you will find that it is more about your attitude than your money that will differentiate you from daily struggles and daily fulfillment.

underh20 is spot on. there's no way on this planet u can live well w/ 60k USD in places like tokyo. some stuff there is simply insane. like strawberries (or some damn fruit) are sold by the unit!

that means 10 strawberries will cost u 10 USD. good luck w/ your 60k.

maybe my friend got the tourist price, i dunno?

What I find very interesting is the OP has not made another comment since his original post. You guys have obviously answered his question or this was done to incite some riot. 60K + 12K for housing...I am 32 and wouldn't come here with that salary, but that is me. The problem with this question is everyone has there own opinion of what is good and what isn't. For the posters who say 3K or 10K RMB is enough, more power to you as I can't see how I could possibly do it and feel comfortable even if my healthcare and housing was covered, it just isn't enough to have a safety net. If you should need to leave the country for any reason, you will need at least 800 dollars just to buy a plane ticket. With those salaries you would need to save several months, just to get home. The people who come here should be coming for experience or to develop their career. Coming strictly to live like a king or to save money is not the right mind set in my opinion. If I were you, I would stay at home.

Ml for ml, 50ml Coke is more expensive that any other (larger) pack format. I don't think it's availability is because people can't afford the larger sizes, it's for light users who don't want a huge can or bottle, the same reason I buy 200ml cartons of milk every day rather than buy one big litre carton which would be cheaper but not as fresh.

Stop trying to stall and just play! We both know that neither of us are going to pay a cent no matter who wins. The cash will do nothing for me... however your squirming is priceless! I love it!

Nice try Gazoo the Fraudster.

Put up the cash. You've already seen how it works. Give the cash to the most trustworthy person on the forum, Yu. He decides who wins or loses. Still $hitting yourself sick about how you'll eat after losing your life's savings? Smile

Now tell us again how the Sheraton is on the wharf and nobody lives in Minatu-ku?

I was wrong, even as a liar you're fuked up. Smile
