Post subject: ChinaLawBlog

Whats up with ChinaLawBlog recently? I used to look at that a lot but it seems to have gone a bit mental the last few weeks. Maybe its because Dan is based in Seattle and isn't in China and is rarely in the country he writes about. Comments like Bo Xi Lai being Minister of Commerce (when he left 3 months ago) and weirdly describing the investment scene in Dalian as "Hot like Paris Hilton Is Hot" then constantly asking us readers to always vote for them in some blogg competition is not exactly what I would call accurate, sensible or responsible reporting on matters of Chinese law. They even spat at the feet of the new Chinese Miss World - slating her as ''only winning because the contest was held in Hainan" which is a bit nasty. Maybe they just want to wind up dumb Yanks back in the States, but you'd expect them to know who the Minister of Commerce is. Plus I keep seeing Steve Dickensen, 'their man in China' totally off his face in well dodgy bars like Judys Too slagging off his own partner. Good things never last in China I guess ChinaLawBlog has just had it day. Thats a shame because at one point it was good, maybe they just get interns or students to write it. But whatever it has become, it ain't what it was. If your into China law blogging i'd recommend Rich Brubakers blog www.AllRoadsLeadToChina.com or www.chinahearsay.com instead. And at least those guys live in the country. Sad about CLB but its just gone totally downhill for credibel legal comment or discussions so much its now just getting embarrasing for us who do live here. Embarassed

Regrettably true. Others have noticed it too: http://www.chinahearsay.com/?p=439

Its hard to post in detail about China when one of you is getting pissed up until 3am in bars in Shanghai and the other lives in Seattle. They've had their day and theres much better stuff and comment out there. ChinaLawBlog is only a 2 man firm - Harris & Moure with no actual China office of their own. Their asking for votes on other peoples blog contests was a bit pathetic.
