| Post subject: help sending a kitten to Korea |
Desperatley after anyone flying to Korea after 10th Feb, who would be willing to take my kitten as hand luggage.
I will organise all the details, just need to meet you at the airport to give you Kimchi (kittens name). My friend will meet you at the airport in Korea, and im sure she would be delighted to show you something of Korea.
Alternately any ideas on how to send a cat (i cant fly myself), as im pretty clueless, and UPS/DHL found my request hilarious.
thanks |

Try calling the airlines, maybe they get this type of request often? |

JacobCraigie,
You can't just carry the kitten as hand luggage as most airlines do not allow animals in the Cabin... I think Air France is the only airline that does allow pets on board in the Cabin (But you still need to buy a seat for them)...
Please also note that to move pets overseas you need to know the regulations in the Country of Destination... The regulations might require animals to be vaccinated prior to shipping, etc... (But if you use a Animal Overseas Mover they arrange everything for you)
You need to contact a Animal Overseas Mover to arrange this for you... I know for a fact that there are some companies that arrange this on behalf the owners or you can approach a Freight Forwarder that has experience moving pets overseas...
I'm not sure who in Shanghai does this but I do know for a fact that Eagle Global Logistics (EGL) does handle pets in Singapore... Maybe you can call their Shanghai Office a try...
Hope this helps... |

Okay, to address Peter2883's concerns:
It is indeed quite possible to just cary on a kitten as hand luggage if you make the airline aware first (ie. http://www.koreanair.com/ > Customer Support > Special Needs > Pets). The criteria are only weight and size, you only need to pay as if it was excess baggage - approx 50RMB/Kg. Why we dont frequently see pets on board planes is simply a mystery to me!
The regulations at both ends are: Rabies Vaccine (done), and recent health inspection to be done at Customs chosen vets in shanghai (ShenPu on Xujiahui lu).
I have already contacted companys that say they can arrange it for me, however i need to pay them, and frankly i dont see why i should pay for them to simply fill out a few customs/quarantine forms. Also im not rich, and its not actually my Kitten, it had to be left behind by a friend when she returned home, as it was too young at the time.
I have spoken to Customs and got hold of the number of a customs officers who can help me with the paperwork to send my kitten on a plane without a person to accompany it, however i must first book a space (not a seat, just a cargo space) with the airline, which i am currently trying to do.
... which is basically it in a nutshell. |
