Post subject: Best Photo Studio for Glamour Shots???

Hey,

Please help me out: I want to get some glamour shots done of myself; in the past I've gone to Wang Kai Photography on Nanjing Rd, but I've come to find the quality of professional creativity lacking at that studio. Can anyone recommend another reputable studio that does sophisticated glamour shots in Shanghai??!! Thanks!!!

My friend has new shots done about once every week. I think she'll have a long list of options. Will report back shortly. I know Wang Kai, very much state owned enterprise mentality which means very unimaginative.

There's a noobie here who's been freelancing for two years - danzeth. Search the threads, look at the samples, if you like them pm him. They look good to me but what do I know about glamour Smile

Some people might find this frivolous and ridiculous, but I still like the concept. It may be a cash cow for the studios, but compared to portrait studios in the U.S., these are much cheaper, and you get to keep digital copies of your photos to do whatever you'd like with them.

I also have a home studio but I am strictly amateur and just shoot friends for fun. Rolento is great but he may be more pro than you need! And there are so many reasonably good studios here although you may need to be able to speak Chinese.

Hey,

Thanks for everyone's posts and input. I actually just took a walk outside and inquired at a couple wedding studios that also do glamour shots. I've made an appointment with C&S Studio Salon (www.qianzichen.com) for a 580 RMB package (3 outfits, hair and makeup, 16 photos in 5X7 album, disc copy, and extra photos for 40 RMB each). Their next package up is 880 RMB (4 outfits, hair and makeup, 20 photos in 8X10 album, disc copy, and extra photos for 40 RMB each). I didn't take note of their larger packages beyond those two, since I'm not looking for anything exorbitant.

I'll post results if they're worthwhile.

Does pretty good work with the photos, but the hair and makeup lady is a bit old-fashioned.

Buzzed - I checked. Edison Studio only caters to famous celebrities.

That is an idea tho, Mr Freelancer. There's a big business here in glamour photos and wedding photos. Most of those places have 6 stock poses and 4 costumes and treat their customers like a herd of cows. Assist went to a famous one, the shots were poop, I talked her into insisting on getting the files, she photoshopped them herself and improved them about 600%. A friend went (hey, it's china, this place has a Big Name so everyone has to go there even tho the service is crap), same deal.

It's possible that a little place that actually paid attention to the girls (oh, what a burden Shocked

), had some imagination and did a good job could get a rep pretty fast for being a good place.

Then you could raise the prices, lower the quality and go out of business like everyone else Razz

Just a thought, but if you can scrape together the funds to rent a place and buy some equipment and costumes ... ??

Yeah I'd probably look into it once I get settled down, tho I'm not sure I wanna shoot "average" ppl the same way over and over and edit out zits all night... Razz

Hire someone else to edit out the zits Smile

I was thinking more along the lines that there are not so many places that actually pay attention to the customers. They have their little pigpoop routines which they force everyone into. Don't do that. More personalized service with more imagination should get better results which should build a good reputation which should yield higher prices. Then you can hire someone to shoot the average girls while you stick with trying to bed the hot ones Very Happy

That's the theory, anyhow.

See below - "he is famous in this field" - that means he hasn't got a nickel's worth of imagination and does the same stoopid old crap day after day after day. Probably has hopping bunny rabbits and mice with wiggling noses on his website. Sure, lots of people here love that but there's a small percentage which would like some real quality.

Find a niche and fill it Razz

Try it for a year. If it works and you like it, yay ! If not, you've learned one hell of a lot about business and Shanghai and had a good time. Tell me that answering the girls' "what do you do ?" question with "I do fashion photography" isn't going to lead to some interesting experiences ....

He is famous in this field and have shot pictures of many movie stars. I got to know him when he shot some product pictures for a company I ever worked with. he is also a teacher of Shanghai Institute of Technology.
