it takes time. You can make up to 100 000 per month as a teacher if you are dedicated, professional and know people (and work hard). Its like anything else. |

I know people at New Oriental can make in excess of 20k a month doing the IELTS/TOEFL training stuff. They usually teach in Chinese though. |

Is there any possible for a foreigner to make 20,000 a month in Shanghai as a teacher? Or what kind of job for an expericned teacher who has English lingust and Computer degree?
Sorry, it sounds like a crazy question. But I really do need to see your guys advice.
My bf's from U.S. and teaching in some H.Z. university. He makes less than 10,000 now.
But he has some finacially problem in U.S and has pay off some debt.
Like pay 12 grand in one year.
If it's impossible, so he will have to leave China. |
Here's what he should do, my friend does it:
1-go to adweekly.cn/ Shanghai expat sites, google "teach english in shanghai"...
2- get a full time position at a private school, working Monday to Friday (kids)
3- Work nights and/or weekends at traning centers. (kids)
My friend does it. I'm sure she makes at least 25/month. I don't know the name of the schools, he will have to do some research. GOOGLE
good luck |

Maybe you should start to look for your next opportunity.
And yes there's a way for a teacher to make more than 20000CNY a month and thats actually to be a qualified teacher (DEGREE Level) with experience and then apply for a post at a foreign school or university teaching something thats in demand. |
Expat English teachers at virtually any university do not make anywhere near 20k RMB per month. Neither do the vast majority of those working at private centers. |
I didn't say teaching just english, I said teaching!!
That could mean any thing from Architecture, Engineering, Chemistry etc
Anything degree level with experience is going to be of some use here if you are a qualified teacher.
Of course they want BONAFIDE DEGREE QUALIFIED western lecturers here teaching other subjects other than english, this way they get free english lesson's thrown in the mix too. |

I had a friend who make 12K+ a month just for 2 part time job that cost him like 3 days a week for 4-5 hours. Teaching english was once regarded as most ludicrous job for foreigner here in China.
You can try to take job to teach chinese company employees company behavioural (like the one we have here) or some sort of it should pay more than english teacher. |

Don't know how teaching English could ever have been considered "lucrative" before. "Ludicrous" does work in the context of the 2 paragraphs.
That said, I knew of some ABC engineers supplementing measly local-plus pay by teaching English on weekends. |

In Hangzhou, with his job, plus some private students, he could be making more than 20K per month. I think the problem is the man, not the location. |

I can confirm that ClarkMorgan pays quite high, but they are not an English training company. Their trainers teach presentation, sales, negotiations, TTT, and the like. I know their starting salary is 14,000 RMB net, plus bonuses, and they have a 'tier' structure that pays as high as 36,000 RMB net, plus bonuses. For that, you only need to train 14 hours a week.
They also offer full international insurance, laptop and mobile phone allowance. Some of the trainers will be publishing their own books this year, which will allow for further royalties. |

i think its possible i have a friend who teaches English part time and earns around 25-35k/monthly. He said he teaches business English mostly to company executives mainly Chinese/Japanese/Korean and visit them in the office. He said its not like the usual English that you learn from school but English for business transactions. |

I heard teachers are paid very well in Jiao Tong University. Is this true? I don't know if you would need a teaching degree or a PhD, but I reckon a Masters at least, to teach in universities. |

I think EF pays really badly - plus I'm told that they don't have any proper status to operate as a school as such except in Mainland China. No schools in Hong Kong or other Asian countries that would require certain documentation.
Try Web in Shanghai - they pay reasonably well, a friend works there and he said it's simple plus enough time off to freelance though these days maybe that's not a good idea.
There are other places that will expect you to work every waking moment of every day and you will get paid quite well for an English teacher but you'll be dog-tired every day. |
