Post subject: Lili Huang I love you!

Most of you may not have heard of this. In 2005, this Chinese girl studying in France did an internship in automotive firm. She was accused of copying data to her personal computer. She was arrested; the media went frenetic about this Yellow Peril, the new Mata Hari etc... She spend 53 days in jail. Two years later, at the end of 2007, she graduated from the engineering school. The trial finally took place (French doesnt have the fastest judicial system in the world...) and was pathetic, as most things are in France since Shorty got elected. To avoid losing face, the judge let her go on highly diminished charges, for which she was found guilty and sentenced to 2 months in jail. Since she has already served more than this time (in France, we call this "preventive detention" normally applied only to criminals to prevent them from committing another crime, but often used to put pressure on suspects). She must have learnt a lot in the process. She looks kind of cute. I love her.

A Chinese trainee will go on trial in France today charged with pirating her employer’s computer system, in a case that has raised Gallic fears over industrial espionage by Beijing.

Li Li Whuang, 24, is accused of copying confidential data from Valeo, the French automotive equipment supplier, on to her personal computer.

Dubbed the Chinese Mata Hari by the French media, she has been portrayed as the symbol of an Asian plot aimed at obtaining secret commercial and technical information. “She was seen as the foot soldier who came to steal France’s industrial secrets,” Le Parisien newspaper said.

Her arrest in 2005 came as the French authorities set up an Economic Intelligence Unit to help businesses to fight industrial espionage, with China denounced as one of the prime culprits. Counter-espionage experts believe that among the growing number of Chinese students and trainees in France lurk spies sent by Beijing to infiltrate industry.

Miss Whuang, from Wuhan in central China, who faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison if found guilty, denies the allegations. She contends that she acted out of ignorance, not realising that it was an offence to copy files on to her computer and never intended to exploit the information.

Defence lawyers assert that she is the victim of French paranoia over China’s rising industrial power. They say that the case has provoked hysterical reactions in a country that regards Beijing as the latest threat from the hostile forces of globalisation.

Raphaël Pacouret, her lawyer, said: “Li Li is a maladroit trainee guilty of carelessness. She made a mistake that should have been punished by the employer, not in a criminal tribunal.”

Miss Whuang has been charged with breach of trust and fraudulent access to a computer system while on a five-month trainee contract in Valeo’s automotive air-conditioning department. She was arrested after her supervisor told police that confidential files had been wiped off the group’s computer network.

Detectives discovered copies of two files - the first, codenamed PL4, involving a project with BMW, and the second, X95, involving work for Renault – on her computer. Officers also found a secret list of Valeo’s production plans in China.

Valeo is demanding €150,000 (£107,000) in damages and compensation for what it describes as an attack on its corporate image.

Miss Whuang was remanded in custody for 53 days but then released on bail as French police acknowledged that there was no evidence that she had transmitted the data to China.

In an interview given soon after her arrest, she said: “At university, students often bring in their hard disk, so I did the same thing in the company. For us, it was a natural thing to do.”

Miss Whuang has resumed her studies at the University Institute of Technology in Compiègne, north of Paris.

A spokesman for the French prosecution service said: “It’s not the spy scandal of the century, but it’s clear she committed an offence.”

Because she choose this way to make the sense in her life, during the way of solving the case for herself, she can learn a lot from it, meanings of life, goals of life, skills of judgement or bargain in court together with lawyers and judges, so many things you can learn from this case, I bet~~~~~~~~~
a good lesson for yourself~~~~
people should be positive for self~~~~

Lock 'em up and throw away the key. Or better, invite them to an 'accident'. Saves the tax payer a lot of money.

Good question here, that points to the most important: this is professional misconduct, not a criminal case. From what I read, noone was fired, no.

Ok but I am not sure about the "foreigner" part. Wherever I am, I tend to like those girl-next-door looks.

I was joking about the stereotype "foreigners like ugly girls" - that type is what most Chinese guys would call ugly. Huang xiaojie is not so great but in Guangdong there's lots of girls with that style face who are very cute. And some decent boomers, too. Shocked

Yes, reminds me of some girl I met in the bus station from Shenzhen to Guangzhou. The most classic mode types, with long legs and all, can be fun too. I could write an entire thread or a book about this, techniques and all.

If someone has the link to the late Frenchlover's thread about the girl with the hat, please post. I am sure some of his fans have bookmarked it.
