RMB 25 for teh tarik? You mean the cost of employing mamak is so expensive here.
Nevertheless, I must say condense milk is hard to find here and very expensive too. |
Nestle consensed milk is available at Gubei Carrefour. |

I am so glad they closed - their food & service was getting worse and worse.
There is an open concept restaurant at Gubei Carrefour (across from the travel agency, before the foodcourt area), there is Secret Recipe. They are a Malaysian brand, food is quite good - mixture of Malaysian and western food. Their Nasi Lemak is good at 26RMB. Their Laksa is good too. |

Sakura is good...in my opinion better than others. However, give their set lunch a miss. Not a true indicator of the food. Order from the menu. Prices are higher than others but the taste is very much closer to those at home.

Their fishball noodles is very good. For dessert, try Chocolate Indulgence. Most times I go straight for their cakes. |

Rendezvous Prices:-
Nasi Lemak 35RMB
Laksa 32RMB
Hokkien Mee 30RMB
Rendang 42RMB
For Laksa, I wish they would use the yellow noodles instead of the white rice noodle (lai fun). |
I guess you must be a Malaysian. I can't find any Lai Fun in Singapore. Penang Laksa with Lai Fun ~ Heavenly |

^^ samcy, have you tried Kampung Kitchen? They have Asam Laksa - Penang style....very good and they do use the asam slices and prawn paste (har kou) for the soup.
Kampung Kitchen
899 Huangjinchengdao
Gubei District
Tel: 62783778
They were in the Hint magazine (Dec 2007 issue).
EDIT: IN CASE ANYONE IS READING THIS LATER ON, TRIED THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN, IT IS NOT CONSISTENT WITH ITS QUALITY - SOMETIMES GOOD, SOMETIMES NASTY! |

Probably I'm those "lar sarp jiak, lar sarp tua" type, I eat almost anything non-vegetable, in watever way it's cooked, or sometimes even uncooked, and I usually eat by the roadside / street vendors.
Probably oso I have it strongly in my mind tat I'm a "quitter" (especially for those of u who remembers / knows the stayer/quitter controversy), this shouldnt be the trace 2 leave behind (I'm getting my PRC ID card soon, hee hee), nor should it be a weakness. I think I enjoy the local food all over the country that I'd travelled.
Probably I'm here for several years oredi, that I'm more used 2 local prices, I see the prices stated here are SGP prices, or some even more expensive! I just feel unworth 2 pay SGP prices in China, not 2 mention higher! Unless 4 gatherings or 2 suit frens' opinion, I dun tink I'll wanna eat SG food at tat kinda price. |

^^ its so hard to understand your post....English?? I am supposing that you do not realized that one cannot get authentic Singapore/Malaysian cuisine at the more "worthy" local prices?? You have to compare apples with apples.
That being said, if you know of any Malaysian/Singaporean cuisne at local prices, please feel free to post, after all this thread IS Best Malaysian/Singapore dishes in Shanghai! |

I guess you can't really get authentic Singaporean/Malaysian Food in Shanghai. Eg Char Kway Teow or Hor Fun, the rice noodle available here is just different. Eg. the sambal paste, where is oomp factor?
However, getting Singaporean/Malaysian Food here is like hearing Singlish in the most unlikely place. It is like meeting old friend. So price may be a factor, but I will still go for it.
Of course the trickiest is to find the best quality with the lowest price.
That's what we are suppose to share here. |

Its been pretty quiet in this thread. Just haven't found any Malaysia/Singapore restaurants not already mentioned here or good enough to recommend. |

Don't know if it's been mentioned much in this forum, but there's always One Degree North on Fuzhou Lu.
Last time I went there had bak kut teh and huge samosas.
Mouth watered just reading the menu.
Spent an extra hour reading the Straits Times from the day before.
Use the search function (upper left corner) to find out more, e.g.
http://www.shanghaiexpat.com/index.php?name=MDForum&file=viewtopic&p=5 55954
The Singaporean/Malaysian Women and SMS(Simply M'sian & S'porean) Club v3.0 forums also have occasional sightings.
Makan makan. |

I've waded through a bunch of posts, but haven't seen anyone comment on Singapore Restaurant. It's located in the strip mall opposite Cloud Nine Mall - just east of the mall. I thought it was good - my wife liked it better than Prima Taste, but we are not native Singaporeans, so take that with a grain of salt.
And we found that the Singaporean noodle stand in the foodcourt of Mei Luo Cheng in XJH has closed down. |

That belonged to Rendezvous. Their main restaurant is at Kerry Centre 1515 Nanjing Rd West (Tongren Rd/Nanjing West Rd), diagonally facing Blue Frog.

If I'm not wrong, it's actually that Bak Kut Teh restaurant that my hubby has tried before. Not exactly a Singaporean restaurant but if you're into BKT, can try it there. It's at Rose Town area, if I'm not wrong. |

erm.. i could not even find Rose Town in google. Do you know the suburb name in chinese?
and here is my scoring for the food in prima taste:
BKT- 4/10
Hainan Chicken- 6/10
Beef Rendang- 6/10
Fried Noodle- 5/10
Kankong Vege- 5/10
Dessert:
Bubur Chacha- 1/10
Ice Kacang- 3/10
Chendol- 2/10
Red Bean Soup- 6/10
I have never tried their curry noodle yet which constantly mentioned by some members here is good but honestly speaking, i am very disapointed by the food provided so far by this restaurant especially dessert. The chef seem know nothing much abt the taste of SE Asia food and i even doubt he is a Sg/ Malaysian. |
