Just checked out Orang 3 on Saturday night, was very good. Guess that becomes best Malaysia food in SH so far.
Owner there was very nice so we got to try many different dishes. You cant believe I went back there again on Sunday, keep eating the same food for 2 days! haha...yeah...it's really that nice except really pricey! Should take a break from that now... |
I just went to Orang3 today and I thought it was so-so only. We ordered the mee siam, penang prawn mee (I stll don't understd why they refused to change the yellow noodles into another kind of noodles), gado gado (ths wasn't good at all), satay and fried carrot cake. Bill came up to rmb100 each - I thought that was ok just that food just wasn't very good. Bit overated? Prima and Fusion better I think (my opinion).
The patio was really nice though, too bad it was drizzling. Plus there's a korean supermarket just outside the restaurant where we bought very reasonably priced korean snacks and beverages. |

I think that the Chicken Rice in Fountain Restaurant located in Xintiandi is pretty good - heard that the owner / chef Justin Quek is from Singapore originally. Yummy! |

Justin Quek is so seriously overrated - hated his food back home and hate his food now. Chicken rice does not need to be jazzed up, just enjoyed a very yummy and authentic plate at RM20 at the food court in Gubei Carrefour. |

HI guys,
Awesome thread.. and very cool to see people with the same interests
I was born in Singapore but lived in Australia and have recently (ie. few weeks ago) been relocated to Shanghai by my company.
I'm based in People's Square area... would love to hear your recs on your fave Singaporean/Malaysian joints in the area?

reading all your posts make me somewhat homesick.. and glad that i know what everyone is talking about.
have been persuading a friend's friend whose family owns a famous chicken rice chain in singapore to set up a branch in shg. he says the plan is 2 years from now.
i think we should just write a petition of some sort; get 2000 names or so who really wants to have that chicken rice.
tired of the many hits and misses here.
btw - is there a zhi cha place? i miss hor fun bad. |

Hi Meepok, xujiahui indeed has a breadtalk. Just beside pizza hut i think. curry puff is at the foodcourt below but not sure if its still there but they have kopi tiam there for your kaya toast and 3min egg cravings. They sell laksa too. Thesevi is tough to find man...i was lucky my unit was at jalan kayu during NS time so i had my fair share of prata for a whole lifetime.
Try Orang tree near Gubei. A little pricy but the lady chef is good at what she does. Taohu telok is good there.
Am not from ACJC but ACJS and i can still remember the whole school anthem...strangely...maybe we should organise a makan trip for "SIS" ters... |

If you are referring to Rendezvous, then it's been there for quite a while. Unfortunately, the food there is not very good... |

hello missbeverly, besides the Prima Deli restaurant on Raffles City, there's also another rest called Momo Chacha diagonally across the Shanghai Book Centre on Fuzhou Road if you have a craving.
the food is ok i guess, though i prefer My Place at Pudong which could be too far for Puxi'ans
how i wish they have newspapers! (for this, try Rendevous or Orchard CRC at Jing'an) |

What is the actual address of My Place in Pudong ??
For those hunger for Singapore/Malaysian - these will be the places I would recommend, being a 5-year-old old bird in Shanghai:
Secret Recipe at JingQiao Carefour, of course there is another one at People's Square - consistently good nasi lemak which is my No. 1 choice, duck soup noddle is not bad, laksa is average, of course their cakes is delicious
Fusion - SongShan Lu/ Huai Hai Lu - found this place about 2 months ago, Penang owner, most dishes are delicious and very close to authetic Malaysian food = Penang char keow teow, prawn mee, carrot cake, pig leg, petai prawn, etc
Nyonya at Dagu Lu - Malacca owner - have to admit their curry and rendang chicked taste authetic and very good, try their pulut hitam too...
Toast Box at Metro Xujiahui - really good coffee there with toast bread, curry chicken is good too...
Orchid CrossRoad at JignQiao - Malaysian owner - nasi lemak, otak, fried crispy chicken , carrot cake, ..etc..is pretty good
Frankie Place - used to go this place but a bit far as it is located in Hong Qiao - laksa is pretty good there |

My Place
No. 601 Zhangyang Road, at Nanquan North Road junction (which is one small road parallel to Pudong South Road)
It's the building with McDonald downstairs, one block behind Babaiban - Yaohan.
张扬路601号浦东食品城三楼, 近南泉北路 / 浦东大道 (八佰半后面)
Hor Fun is quite nice
辛香汇 (great sizhuan) and 豆捞 (yummy steamboat) are also upstairs but expect long long queue |

I have been ordering from My Place using Sherpa's, and must say the food is quite chantek. Curry chicken and fried bee hoon is recommended. My gourmet experience with Prima was not too impressive - laksa was soso and prawn mee is a let-down. Otak taste very 'chemical'. |
