Post subject: MG and Roewe cars

I am trying to find websites of these companies in china with models and prices or does anyone know where to buy them in Shanghai?

Roewe is more popular in Shanghai. Try Yongda Auto Pudong: Tel:50836789
My friend just bought one from them.

All I know about Roewe is that there was an ad in my building's elevator last year that read, "Sometimes it's not enough to do your best; sometimes you must do what's required." With a tag line like that... Shocked

No, Roewe actually IS the Rover but now owned by Shanghai Automotive as Rover went out of business and sold its rights and production to SAIC. But then again you knew that.

I remember reading something about it, but wasn't sure if it was a license product or the same product. What you are saying is that Rover is completely out of business in Europe? That I did not realize. Interesting

Oh, I always thought is just a knock-off, like the QQ-car or the little car which has front looking same as Mercedes (Benz)

I think they did not buy the brand name Rover, just everything else. Isnt that why they use a transliteration of the Chinese name Roewe? Something like that.

Actually the name is horrible as it is pronounced similar to "wrong way"...sort of appropriate in some ways...Wink

But yes, SAIC and Nanjing Auto both bought different parts of the Rover/MG company and production lines to the Rover and MG vehicles, giving both of these Chinese companies actually rights to these cars. I think SAIC only bought the rights to pne car whil Nanjing Auto actually got the rights to branding and such in their package...

Agree Yu, and then SAIC decided to take over Nanjing Auto, so now it's all in the ahands of SAIC. And they still offer it as 'wrong way'.

The basement level car dealership at Yohan/BaBaiBan had Roewe/MGs on display in December 2007, last time I was there.
